Compare the2023 Kia EV6VS 2023 Porsche Taycan

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the EV6 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Taycan doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The EV6 offers optional Parking Collision-Avoidance Reverse that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Taycan doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The EV6 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Taycan’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the EV6’s standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. The Taycan doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The EV6’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Taycan doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the EV6 and the Taycan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the EV6 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 127 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Taycan has not been tested, yet.

The EV6 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Taycan’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the EV6 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the Taycan. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Taycan ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 4 times as many Kia dealers as there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EV6’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the EV6’s reliability 54 points higher than the Taycan.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are better in initial quality than Porsche vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia fourth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 44 more problems per 100 vehicles, Porsche is ranked 24th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Porsche vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia first in reliability, above the industry average. With 17 more problems per 100 vehicles, Porsche is ranked 7th.

For better traction, the EV6 has larger standard tires than the Taycan (235/45R20 vs. 225/55R19).

The EV6 GT handles at .92 G’s, while the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo pulls only .88 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the EV6 GT’s turning circle is .2 feet tighter than the Taycan Cross Turismo’s (39.2 feet vs. 39.4 feet).

The Kia EV6 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 600 pounds less than the Porsche Taycan.

The EV6 Light/Wind is 11.5 inches shorter than the Taycan Cross Turismo, making the EV6 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

For excellent aerodynamics, the EV6 has standard flush composite headlights. The Taycan has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The EV6 has 11 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Taycan Cross Turismo (103 vs. 92).

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EV6’s rear seats recline. The Taycan’s rear seats don’t recline.

The EV6 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat up (24.4 vs. 18.7 cubic feet). The EV6 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat folded (50.2 vs. 45.7 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the EV6’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Taycan doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The EV6’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Taycan.

On a hot day the EV6’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Taycan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The EV6’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Taycan’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Consumer Reports rated the EV6’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the Taycan’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the EV6 has standard extendable sun visors. The Taycan doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The EV6 Wind/GT-Line/GT has a 115-volt a/c outlet, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Taycan doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Kia EV6, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Porsche Taycan isn't recommended.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the EV6 first among compact SUVs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Taycan isn’t in the top three.

The EV6 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The Taycan has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the EV6 as the 2023 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Taycan has never been chosen.

The Kia EV6 outsold the Porsche Taycan by 82% during 2022.
