For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Genesis GV80 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the GV80 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The GV80 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GV80 offers optional Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Both the GV80 and the Range Rover Evoque have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Genesis GV80 weighs 431 to 1169 pounds more than the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Acceptable” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the GV80 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 126 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Range Rover Evoque has not been tested, yet.

The GV80 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Range Rover Evoque’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV80 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Land Rover covers the Range Rover Evoque. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Range Rover Evoque ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The GV80’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Range Rover Evoque’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the GV80 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Land Rover doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Range Rover Evoque.

There are over 54 percent more Genesis dealers than there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GV80’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 37 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is ranked 22nd, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 129 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is ranked 32nd.

The GV80 2.5T’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 54 more horsepower (300 vs. 246) and 42 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 269) than the Range Rover Evoque’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The GV80 2.5T’s 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 4 more horsepower (300 vs. 296) and 16 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 295) than the Range Rover Evoque HST’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The GV80 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6 produces 79 more horsepower (375 vs. 296) and 96 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 295) than the Range Rover Evoque HST’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the GV80 2.5T 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder is faster than the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque 2.0:

The GV80 has 3.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the Range Rover Evoque (21.1 vs. 17.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The GV80 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Range Rover Evoque. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

For better stopping power the GV80’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Range Rover Evoque:

The GV80’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Range Rover Evoque are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the GV80 has larger tires than the Range Rover Evoque (265/40R22 vs. 235/60R18). The GV80’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Range Rover Evoque (265/40R22 vs. 245/45R21).

The GV80’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover Evoque’s standard 60 series tires. The GV80’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Range Rover Evoque’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GV80 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Range Rover Evoque. The GV80’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Range Rover Evoque.

The GV80 offers an optional automatic rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GV80’s wheelbase is 10.8 inches longer than on the Range Rover Evoque (116.3 inches vs. 105.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GV80 is 2 inches wider in the front and 2.3 inches wider in the rear than on the Range Rover Evoque.

The GV80 PRESTIGE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.6 seconds quicker than the Range Rover Evoque SE (26.9 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 28.5 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

The GV80 Prestige uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The GV80 offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the Range Rover Evoque can only carry 5.

Pressing a button automatically lowers the GV80’s second and third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the GV80. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The GV80’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Range Rover Evoque’s (6000 vs. 3968 pounds).

The engine in the GV80 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Range Rover Evoque. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

If the windows are left open on the GV80 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Range Rover Evoque can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The GV80’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Range Rover Evoque’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the GV80 has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the GV80 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The GV80 has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The GV80 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Range Rover Evoque.

The GV80 offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Range Rover Evoque.

The GV80 offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the GV80 second among upper midsize premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Range Rover Evoque isn’t in the top three.

The GV80 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2021. The Range Rover Evoque has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

The Genesis GV80 outsold the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque by almost three to one during 2022.
