The Acadia Denali’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Corsair doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front shoulder belts of the GMC Acadia are height-adjustable, and the middle seat shoulder belts have child comfort guides to move the belt to properly fit children. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages children to buckle up. The Lincoln Corsair has only front height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Acadia are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Corsair doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Acadia has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Corsair doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Acadia AT4’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Corsair doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the Acadia and the Corsair have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the GMC Acadia is safer than the Lincoln Corsair:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH, results indicate that the GMC Acadia is safer than the Lincoln Corsair:

Warranty

The Acadia’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Corsair’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 2 times as many GMC dealers as there are Lincoln dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Acadia’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Acadia third among upper midsize suvs in their 2022 Initial Quality Study. The Corsair isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that GMC vehicles are better in initial quality than Lincoln vehicles. J.D. Power ranks GMC above average in initial quality. With 5 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is rated lower.

Engine

The Acadia’s optional 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 44 more horsepower (310 vs. 266) than the Corsair Grand Touring’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Acadia’s fuel efficiency. The Corsair doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The Acadia FWD’s standard fuel tank has 8.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair Grand Touring’s standard fuel tank (19.4 vs. 11.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Acadia AWD’s standard fuel tank has 5.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair’s standard fuel tank (21.7 vs. 16.2 gallons).

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the GMC Acadia higher (6 to 7 out of 10) than the Lincoln Corsair (5 to 7). This means the Acadia produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Corsair every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the GMC Acadia, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Corsair.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Acadia’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Corsair:

The Acadia’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Corsair are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Acadia has larger standard tires than the Corsair (235/65R18 vs. 225/60R18). The Acadia AT4’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Corsair (255/65R17 vs. 245/45R20).

The GMC Acadia’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Lincoln Corsair only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Acadia has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Corsair doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Acadia’s wheelbase is 5.8 inches longer than on the Corsair (112.5 inches vs. 106.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Acadia is 1.9 inches wider in the front and 1.1 inches wider in the rear than on the Corsair.

The Acadia Denali AWD handles at .85 G’s, while the Corsair Reserve AWD pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Acadia SLT AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Corsair Standard AWD (26.9 seconds @ .67 average G’s vs. 27.7 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

Passenger Space

The Acadia offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the Corsair can only carry 5.

The Acadia has 41.3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Corsair (143.8 vs. 102.5).

The Acadia has .5 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front hip room, 2.3 inches more front shoulder room, .9 inches more rear headroom, 1.1 inches more rear legroom, 2.5 inches more rear hip room and 2.4 inches more rear shoulder room than the Corsair.

Cargo Capacity

The Acadia’s cargo area provides more volume than the Corsair.

Towing

Maximum trailer towing in the Lincoln Corsair is limited to 3000 pounds. The Acadia offers up to a 4000 lbs. towing capacity.

Ergonomics

When the Acadia with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Corsair’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Acadia offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Corsair doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Economic Advantages

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Acadia is less expensive to operate than the Corsair because it costs $36 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost less on the Acadia than the Corsair, including $39 less for a water pump, $95 less for a muffler, $33 less for a starter, $85 less for fuel injection, $73 less for a fuel pump, $101 less for front struts and $75 less for a power steering pump.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends both the GMC Acadia and the Lincoln Corsair, based on reliability, safety and performance.

The GMC Acadia outsold the Lincoln Corsair by almost two to one during 2022.
