Compare the2023 Ford F-150VS 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup

The F-150 has standard head airbag curtains for front and rear seats which act as a forgiving barrier between the driver and outboard passenger's upper bodies and the window and pillars. Combined with high-strength steel door beams and lower side airbags this system increases head protection in broadside collisions. The Hummer EV Pickup doesn't offer side airbag protection for the head and are only available for the front seats.

The F-150 has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Hummer EV Pickup doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the F-150 and Hummer EV Pickup offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the F-150 with Cross Traffic Alert also has Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Hummer EV Pickup’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the F-150 and the Hummer EV Pickup have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available four-wheel drive, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its available headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the F-150 the rating of “Top Safety Pick” for 2022, a rating granted to only 174 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Hummer EV Pickup has not been tested, yet.

The F-150’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Hummer EV Pickup’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

There are over 79 percent more Ford dealers than there are GMC dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the F-150’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the F-150 third among large light duty pickups in their 2022 Initial Quality Study. The Hummer EV Pickup isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Ford vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford above average in long-term dependability. With 4 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, GMC is rated lower.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Ford vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Ford 3 places higher in reliability than GMC.

The F-150 stops much shorter than the Hummer EV Pickup:

The F-150 Limited’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Hummer EV Pickup’s 55 series tires.

The F-150 has a standard full size spare so a flat doesn’t interrupt your work or a trip. A full size spare costs extra on the Hummer EV Pickup. Without the option you must depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the F-150 5.5-foot SuperCrew’s wheelbase is 9.8 inches longer than on the Hummer EV Pickup (145.4 inches vs. 135.6 inches). The F-150 6.5-foot SuperCrew’s wheelbase is 21.6 inches longer than on the Hummer EV Pickup (157.2 inches vs. 135.6 inches).

The F-150 5.5-foot Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 handles at .75 G’s, while the Hummer EV Pickup pulls only .73 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Ford F-150 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 3100 to 4950 pounds less than the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

The F-150 is 6.8 inches narrower than the Hummer EV Pickup, making the F-150 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The F-150 SuperCab offers optional seating for 6 passengers; the Hummer EV Pickup can only carry 5.

The F-150 SuperCrew shortbed has a much larger cargo box than the Hummer EV Regular Cab shortbed (52.8 vs. 36.7 cubic feet).

The Hummer EV Pickup’s spare tire is stored in the cargo area, where it diminishes the useable cargo capacity and interferes with loading and unloading. The F-150’s spare is out of the way underneath.

The F-150’s cargo box is larger than the Hummer EV Pickup’s in almost every dimension:

The F-150 has stake post holes, to allow the containment of tall, light loads. The Hummer EV Pickup doesn’t offer stake post holes.

Maximum trailer towing in the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is limited to 7500 pounds. The F-150 SuperCab offers up to a 14,000 lbs. towing capacity.

The F-150 4WD can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the F-150 can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Hummer EV Pickup can’t be towed flat on the ground.

The F-150 5.5-foot SuperCrew 4x4 has a much higher standard payload capacity than the Hummer EV Pickup (1765 vs. 1300 lbs.).

The F-150 6.5-foot SuperCrew 4x4 has a much higher optional payload capacity than the Hummer EV Pickup (2650 vs. 1300 lbs.).

The F-150 XLT/Lariat/King Ranch/Platinum’s front power windows both open or close with one touch of the switches. The Hummer EV Pickup’s power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the F-150’s available exterior PIN entry system. The Hummer EV Pickup doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its OnStar® can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the F-150 offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Hummer EV Pickup doesn’t offer cornering lights. The F-150 (except XL) also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The F-150 (except XL/XLT/Lariat) offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Hummer EV Pickup.

The Ford F-150 comes in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab bodystyles; the GMC Hummer EV Pickup isn’t available as a regular cab or extended cab.

The F-150 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Hummer EV Pickup doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
