Both the Cullinan and X5 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Cullinan has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The X5’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Cullinan. But it costs extra on the X5.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Cullinan helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The X5 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Cullinan and the X5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan weighs 809 to 1241 pounds more than the BMW X5. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Cullinan comes with a full 4-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The X5’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Rolls-Royce pays for scheduled maintenance on the Cullinan for 1 year and -36,000 miles longer than BMW pays for maintenance for the X5 (4/unlimited vs. 3/36,000).

The Cullinan’s standard 6.8 turbo V12 produces 228 more horsepower (563 vs. 335) and 296 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 331) than the X5 40i’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid. The Cullinan’s 6.8 turbo V12 produces 40 more horsepower (563 vs. 523) and 74 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 553) than the X5 M50i’s standard 4.4 turbo V8. The Cullinan Black Badge’s standard 6.8 turbo V12 produces 69 more horsepower (592 vs. 523) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (664 vs. 553) than the X5 M50i’s standard 4.4 turbo V8.

The Cullinan has 8.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the X5 (30.4 vs. 21.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Cullinan has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the X5.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the Cullinan can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. Run-flat tires aren’t available on some tire packages on the X5.

The front and rear suspension of the Cullinan uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the X5, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Cullinan has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Cullinan’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The X5 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Cullinan’s wheelbase is 12.6 inches longer than on the X5 (129.7 inches vs. 117.1 inches).

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Cullinan’s rear seats recline. The X5’s middle row seats don’t recline.

Flexibility is maximized at the game, campground or a drive-in theatre in the Cullinan when its optional tailgating rear seats are deployed, allowing people to sit facing out of the tailgate. (Do not use while vehicle is in motion.) The X5 doesn’t offer tailgating seats.

The Cullinan has a much larger cargo volume than the X5 with its rear seat up (43.4 vs. 33.9 cubic feet).

The Cullinan has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the X5.

The Cullinan has standard massaging front seats. Massaging front seats cost extra on the X5. The Cullinan also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging second row seats aren’t available in the X5.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The X5 doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
