The Phantom has standard whiplash protection, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the whiplash protection system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. At the same time the pretensioning seatbelts fire, removing slack from the belts. The Taycan doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Phantom has standard PostCrash, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Taycan doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The Phantom has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Taycan’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Phantom has standard Cross Traffic Warning, helping the driver avoid collisions. Porsche charges extra for rear cross-path warning on the Taycan.

The Phantom’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Taycan doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Phantom and the Taycan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom weighs 555 to 1298 pounds more than the Porsche Taycan. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Phantom comes with a full 4-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Taycan’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Rolls-Royce pays for scheduled maintenance on the Phantom for 2 years and -24,000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Taycan (4/unlimited vs. 2/24,000).

The Phantom’s 6.8 turbo V12 produces 161 more horsepower (563 vs. 402) and 410 lbs.-ft. more torque (664 vs. 254) than the Taycan’s standard electric motor. The Phantom’s 6.8 turbo V12 produces 94 more horsepower (563 vs. 469) and 401 lbs.-ft. more torque (664 vs. 263) than the Taycan Performance Plus’ optional electric motor. The Phantom’s 6.8 turbo V12 produces 94 more horsepower (563 vs. 469) and 296 lbs.-ft. more torque (664 vs. 368) than the Taycan Cross Turismo’s standard electric motors.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Rolls-Royce Phantom, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a 2-speed automatic is available for the Taycan.

For better traction, the Phantom has larger standard tires than the Taycan (255/50R21 vs. 225/55R19).

The Phantom’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Taycan’s standard 55 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Phantom has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Taycan. The Phantom’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Taycan.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Phantom can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Taycan doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

The front and rear suspension of the Phantom uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Taycan, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Phantom has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Taycan doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Phantom’s wheelbase is 25.6 inches longer than on the Taycan (139.8 inches vs. 114.2 inches). The Phantom EWB’s wheelbase is 34.3 inches longer than on the Taycan (148.5 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Phantom a Large car, while the Taycan is rated a Compact.

The Phantom has 27 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Taycan (116 vs. 89).

The Phantom has 3 inches more front headroom, 3 inches more front shoulder room, 1.7 inches more rear headroom, 11.3 inches more rear legroom and 3.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Taycan.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Phantom’s rear seats recline. The Taycan’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Phantom has a much larger trunk than the Taycan (19 vs. 17.2 cubic feet).

With its sedan body style, valet key and remote trunk release lockout, the Phantom offers cargo security. The Taycan’s non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.

The Phantom’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Taycan.

If the windows are left open on the Phantom the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Taycan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Phantom to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Taycan doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

Laser headlights, standard on the Phantom, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the Taycan’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Phantom has standard extendable sun visors. The Taycan doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are standard in the Phantom to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Taycan doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Phantom’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Taycan doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Phantom has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Taycan.

Both the Phantom and the Taycan offer optional massaging front seats. The Phantom also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the Taycan.
