The Phantom’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the Phantom and Quattroporte have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Phantom has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Quattroporte’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Phantom has standard PostCrash, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

An active infrared night vision system standard on the Phantom helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera and near-infrared lights to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard and even aims one of the vehicle’s headlights in the direction of the person or object. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Phantom’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Phantom and the Quattroporte have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom weighs 996 to 1259 pounds more than the Maserati Quattroporte. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Phantom comes with a full 4-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Quattroporte’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

The Phantom’s 4 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Quattroporte runs out after 50,000 miles.

Rolls-Royce pays for scheduled maintenance on the Phantom for 4 years and unlimited miles. Rolls-Royce will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Maserati doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Quattroporte.

The Phantom’s 6.8 turbo V12 produces 218 more horsepower (563 vs. 345) and 295 lbs.-ft. more torque (664 vs. 369) than the Quattroporte GT’s standard 3.0 turbo V6. The Phantom’s 6.8 turbo V12 produces 139 more horsepower (563 vs. 424) and 236 lbs.-ft. more torque (664 vs. 428) than the Quattroporte Modena’s standard 3.0 turbo V6. The Phantom’s 6.8 turbo V12 produces 126 lbs.-ft. more torque (664 vs. 538) than the Quattroporte Trofeo’s standard 3.8 turbo V8.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Rolls-Royce Phantom uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Quattroporte requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Phantom has 2.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Quattroporte (23.8 vs. 21.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Rolls-Royce Phantom higher (3 out of 10) than the Maserati Quattroporte (1 to 3). This means the Phantom produces up to 22.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Quattroporte every 15,000 miles.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Phantom has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 20-inch wheels are standard on the Quattroporte. The Phantom’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Quattroporte.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Phantom can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

The Phantom has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the Phantom uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Quattroporte, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Phantom offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Maserati doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Quattroporte.

The Phantom has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Phantom’s wheelbase is 15 inches longer than on the Quattroporte (139.8 inches vs. 124.8 inches). The Phantom EWB’s wheelbase is 23.7 inches longer than on the Quattroporte (148.5 inches vs. 124.8 inches).

The Phantom has 2 cubic foot more passenger volume than the Quattroporte (116 vs. 114).

The Phantom has 2.6 inches more front headroom, .7 inches more rear headroom and 1 inch more rear shoulder room than the Quattroporte.

The Phantom has a larger trunk than the Quattroporte (19 vs. 18.7 cubic feet).

With its sedan body style, valet key and remote trunk release lockout, the Phantom offers cargo security. The Quattroporte’s non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Quattroporte, the Phantom has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Phantom has a standard heads-up display that projects speed in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the Phantom the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Quattroporte can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Laser headlights, standard on the Phantom, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the Quattroporte’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Phantom has standard extendable sun visors. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Phantom has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Quattroporte.

The Phantom offers optional massaging front and rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Quattroporte.
