The Mercedes G-Class has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the G-Class’ fuel efficiency. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The G-Class has 7.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Range Rover Sport P440e’s standard fuel tank (26.4 vs. 18.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The G-Class has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Range Rover Sport’s standard fuel tank (26.4 vs. 23.8 gallons).

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certifies the Mercedes G-Class as an “Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle” (ULEV). The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is only certified to “Low Emissions Vehicle” (LEV) standards.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes G-Class, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Range Rover Sport.

If the windows are left open on the G-Class the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Range Rover Sport can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The G-Class has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. A locking fuel/charge port door is only offered on the Range Rover Sport P440e.
