To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the AMG E-Class Cabriolet. But it costs extra on the 4 Series Convertible.

Both the AMG E-Class Cabriolet and 4 Series Convertible have rear cross-traffic warning, but the AMG E-Class Cabriolet has Active Brake Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The 4 Series Convertible’s Cross Traffic Warning doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the AMG E-Class Cabriolet and the 4 Series Convertible have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available lane departure warning systems.

There are over 9 percent more Mercedes dealers than there are BMW dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s warranty.

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 174 more horsepower (429 vs. 255) and 90 lbs.-ft. more torque (384 vs. 294) than the 430i Convertible’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 47 more horsepower (429 vs. 382) and 16 lbs.-ft. more torque (384 vs. 368) than the M440i Convertible’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid.

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet has 1.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the 4 Series Convertible (17.4 vs. 15.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes AMG E-Class Cabriolet, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the 4 Series Convertible.

For better traction, the AMG E-Class Cabriolet has larger tires than the 4 Series Convertible (F:245/40R19 & R:275/35R19 vs. 225/45R18). The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 4 Series Convertible (F:245/40R19 & R:275/35R19 vs. F:225/40R19 & R:255/35R19).

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s standard 245/40R19 front and 275/35R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 430i’s standard 45 series tires. The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s optional 245/35R20 front and 275/30R20 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the 4 Series Convertible’s optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the AMG E-Class Cabriolet has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the 430i. The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s optional 20-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the 4 Series Convertible.

The front and rear suspension of the AMG E-Class Cabriolet uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the 4 Series Convertible, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The 4 Series Convertible doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The 4 Series Convertible doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the AMG E-Class Cabriolet is 1.8 inches wider in the front and .1 inches wider in the rear than on the 4 Series Convertible.

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet has 3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the 4 Series Convertible (87 vs. 84).

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet has 1 inch more front shoulder room, .3 inches more rear headroom, 1.6 inches more rear legroom and 4.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the 4 Series Convertible.

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s standard folding rear seats are split to accommodate bulky cargo. The 4 Series Convertible’s standard single piece folding rear seat is not as flexible; long cargo and a passenger can’t share the rear seat.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the 4 Series Convertible, the AMG E-Class Cabriolet has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The 4 Series Convertible doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children in the rear seat from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. BMW does not offer a locking feature on the 4 Series Convertible’s standard power windows.

Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the AMG E-Class Cabriolet to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The 4 Series Convertible doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the 4 Series Convertible.

The AMG E-Class Cabriolet offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the 4 Series Convertible.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes AMG E-Class has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The 4 Series Convertible doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Motor Trend selected the E-Class as their 2021 Car of the Year. The 4 Series Convertible has never been chosen.
