Safety

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the XT4 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Grecale doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The XT4 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Grecale’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the XT4 has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert, helping the driver avoid collisions. Maserati charges extra for Rear Cross Path on the Grecale.

Both the XT4 and the Grecale have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

Warranty

Cadillac’s powertrain warranty covers the XT4 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Maserati covers the Grecale. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Grecale ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The XT4’s corrosion warranty is 2 years and unlimited miles longer than the Grecale’s (6/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

There are almost 5 times as many Cadillac dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the XT4’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Cadillac vehicles are better in initial quality than Maserati vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac above average in initial quality. With 92 more problems per 100 vehicles, Maserati is rated below average.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the XT4 gets better mileage than the Grecale:

2.0 turbo 4-cyl.

23 city/30 hwy

AWD

2.0 turbo 4-cyl.

22 city/29 hwy

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Cadillac XT4 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Grecale requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The XT4 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Grecale doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Cadillac XT4 higher (7 out of 10) than the Maserati Grecale (5). This means the XT4 produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Grecale every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Cadillac XT4, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Grecale.

Tires and Wheels

The XT4 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Grecale doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The XT4 offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Grecale; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the XT4’s turning circle is 2.8 feet tighter than the Grecale’s (38 feet vs. 40.8 feet).

Chassis

The Cadillac XT4 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 650 pounds less than the Maserati Grecale.

The XT4 is 9.7 inches shorter than the Grecale, making the XT4 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the XT4 Premium Luxury/Sport uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Grecale doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The XT4 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Grecale doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Cargo Capacity

The XT4 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Grecale (22.5 vs. 18.9 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

The XT4 Premium Luxury/Sport offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Grecale.

The XT4 Premium Luxury/Sport’s optional Automatic Park Assist can parallel park by itself, starting and stopping automatically, with the driver only responsible for switching from reverse to drive. The Grecale doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The XT4 is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Grecale doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

The Cadillac XT4 outsold the Maserati Grecale by over 41 to one during 2022.
