The G90’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The XF doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Genesis G90 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar XF doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the G90 are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The XF doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Genesis G90 has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The XF doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The G90 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The XF doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The G90 has standard Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The XF doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The G90 offers an optional Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The XF doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the G90. But it costs extra on the XF.

Both the G90 and the XF have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Genesis G90 weighs 1016 to 1501 pounds more than the Jaguar XF. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For its performance in IIHS driver-side and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, updated side impact, headlight, daytime pedestrian crash prevention, and nighttime pedestrian crash prevention testing, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the G90 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2023, a rating granted to only 29 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The XF has not been tested, yet.

Warranty

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G90 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Jaguar covers the XF. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the XF ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The G90’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the XF’s (7 vs. 6 years).

There are over 61 percent more Genesis dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the G90’s warranty.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the G90’s reliability 20 points higher than the XF.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 54 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 26th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 78 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 26th.

Engine

The G90 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6 produces 129 more horsepower (375 vs. 246) and 122 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 269) than the XF P250’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The G90 3.5T’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 79 more horsepower (375 vs. 296) and 96 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 295) than the XF P300’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The G90 3.5T e-SC’s standard 3.5 turbo/supercharged V6 hybrid produces 113 more horsepower (409 vs. 296) and 110 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 295) than the XF P300’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

Fuel Economy and Range

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Genesis G90 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The XF requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the G90’s brake rotors are larger than those on the XF:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction and acceleration, the G90 has larger rear tires than the XF (275/40R20 vs. 245/45R18). The G90 3.5T’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the XF (275/40R20 vs. 255/35R20).

The G90 3.5T’s standard 275/40R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XF’s standard 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the G90 3.5T has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the XF. The G90 3.5T e-SC’s 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the XF.

Suspension and Handling

The G90 3.5T has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The XF doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the G90’s wheelbase is 8.7 inches longer than on the XF (125.2 inches vs. 116.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the G90 is 2.1 inches wider in the front and 2.2 inches wider in the rear than on the XF.

For better maneuverability, the G90 3.5T e-SC’s turning circle is 1.1 feet tighter than the XF’s (37.1 feet vs. 38.2 feet).

Chassis

The design of the Genesis G90 amounts to more than styling. The G90 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .27 Cd. That is lower than the XF (.29 to .32) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the G90 get better fuel mileage.

The G90 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The XF doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the G90 a Large car, while the XF is rated a Compact.

The G90 has 14.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the XF (109.2 vs. 95).

The G90 has 1.9 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more front legroom, 2.2 inches more front shoulder room, .1 inches more rear legroom and 1.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the XF.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the G90 3.5T e-SC’s rear seats recline. The XF’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The G90 has a much larger trunk than the XF Sedan (12 vs. 10.1 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

The G90’s optional power side swing out doors make it much easier to load and unload kids and cargo. One touch opens the door, before you even get to the car. The XF doesn’t offer a power rear door.

The G90 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The XF doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the G90 has standard extendable sun visors. The XF doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are standard in the G90 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The XF doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The G90 has standard front air conditioned seats and the G90 3.5T e-SC also has them in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The XF doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The G90 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the XF.

The G90 has standard massaging front seats. Massaging front seats cost extra on the XF, and are only available on the XF R-Dynamic. The G90 3.5T e-SC also has standard massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the XF.

The G90’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The XF S’ automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.
