Full-time four-wheel drive is optional on the Sierra HD. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the F-Super Duty.

The Sierra HD Gas Engine has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The Sierra HD has a standard brake assist system to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Sierra HD has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The GMC Sierra HD offers an optional EZ Lift-and-Lower Tailgate, which prevents the heavy tailgate from falling with a crash and causing injury. It allows adults and children to easily open and close the tailgate with one hand to better facilitate loading and unloading. The Ford F-Super Duty doesn’t offer a tailgate assist.

The Sierra HD has an all welded cargo box to eliminate possible corrosion spots and to provide better chassis stiffness. The cargo box in the F-Super Duty is bolted through the bed to the frame with large bolts. These bolts are a prime area for corrosion to start as the normal flexing of the truck’s chassis causes them to eat through the finish; they can also snag cargo as it slides in and out.

The Sierra HD’s basic available front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The F-Super Duty’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

The Sierra HD’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the F-Super Duty’s standard halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

When the Sierra HD SLT/AT4/Denali is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The F-Super Duty’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Sierra HD’s optional rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver.
