Compare the2023 Ferrari F8 VS 2022 Mercedes AMG SL

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the F8 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The F8’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The AMG SL’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

Both the F8 and the AMG SL have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and available rearview cameras.

The F8 comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The AMG SL’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Ferrari pays for scheduled maintenance on the F8 for 7 years and unlimited miles. Ferrari will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG SL.

The F8’s 3.9 turbo V8 produces 241 more horsepower (710 vs. 469) and 51 lbs.-ft. more torque (567 vs. 516) than the AMG SL 55’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The F8’s 3.9 turbo V8 produces 133 more horsepower (710 vs. 577) than the AMG SL 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

The F8 has 4.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG SL (22.7 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the F8’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the AMG SL:

For better traction and acceleration, the F8 has larger rear tires than the AMG SL (305/30R20 vs. 295/35R20).

The F8’s 245/35R20 front and 305/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG SL’s standard 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

The F8 offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the AMG SL; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

For better maneuverability, the F8’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the AMG SL’s (38.7 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The Ferrari F8 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1100 to 1150 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG SL.

The F8 is 3.7 inches shorter than the AMG SL, making the F8 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Ferrari F8 amounts to more than styling. The F8 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .292 Cd. That is lower than the AMG SL (.31). A more efficient exterior helps the F8 go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the F8 get better fuel mileage.

The F8’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The AMG SL doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The F8 has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The AMG SL doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Ferrari F8 comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Mercedes AMG SL isn’t available as a coupe.
