Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the F8 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The F8’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The DBS’ side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

Both the F8 and the DBS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rear parking sensors and available rearview cameras.

Ferrari pays for scheduled maintenance on the F8 for 7 years and unlimited miles. Ferrari will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Aston Martin doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the DBS.

As tested in Motor Trend the Ferrari F8 is faster than the Aston Martin DBS:

The F8 has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the DBS (22.7 vs. 21.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The F8 offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The DBS doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The F8’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The DBS doesn’t offer launch control.

The F8 stops shorter than the DBS:

The F8 offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the DBS; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The F8 Tributo handles at 1.06 G’s, while the DBS Superleggera Coupe pulls only 1.02 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The F8 Tributo executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the DBS Superleggera Coupe (22.8 seconds @ .93 average G’s vs. 23.6 seconds @ .89 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the F8’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the DBS’ (38.7 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The Ferrari F8 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 900 to 1100 pounds less than the Aston Martin DBS.

The F8 is 4 inches shorter than the DBS, making the F8 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Ferrari F8 amounts to more than styling. The F8 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .292 Cd. That is significantly lower than the DBS (.38). A more efficient exterior helps the F8 go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the F8 get better fuel mileage.

The F8’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The DBS doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

With its coupe body style and remote trunk release lockout, the F8 offers cargo security. The DBS’ non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the F8. The DBS doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The F8’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The DBS does not have an oil pressure gauge.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The F8 has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The DBS doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The F8’s optional rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The DBS has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.
