To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Cherokee. But it costs extra on the XC40.

The Cherokee Trailhawk’s optional 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 23 more horsepower (270 vs. 247) and 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (295 vs. 258) than the XC40 B5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Jeep Cherokee uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended on Cherokee Trailhawk for maximum performance). The XC40 requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Cherokee has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the XC40 (15.8 vs. 14.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Jeep Cherokee, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the XC40.

The Cherokee’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The XC40 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.
