For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG C-Class Cabriolet have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The BMW 2 Series doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The AMG C-Class Cabriolet’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The 2 Series doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The AMG C-Class Cabriolet’s standard pretensioning seatbelts also sense rear collisions and remove slack from the seatbelts to help protect the occupants from whiplash and other injuries. The 2 Series doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the AMG C-Class Cabriolet. But it costs extra on the 2 Series.

Both the AMG C-Class Cabriolet and the 2 Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available lane departure warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

There are over 9 percent more Mercedes dealers than there are BMW dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the AMG C-Class Cabriolet’s warranty.

The AMG C-Class Cabriolet’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 130 more horsepower (385 vs. 255) and 90 lbs.-ft. more torque (384 vs. 294) than the 230i’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The AMG C-Class Cabriolet’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 3 more horsepower (385 vs. 382) and 15 lbs.-ft. more torque (384 vs. 369) than the M240i’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder.

The AMG C-Class Cabriolet has 3.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the 2 Series (17.4 vs. 13.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes AMG C-Class Cabriolet higher (5 out of 10) than the BMW 2 Series (3 to 5). This means the AMG C-Class Cabriolet produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 2 Series every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes AMG C-Class Cabriolet, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the 2 Series.

For better traction and acceleration, the AMG C-Class Cabriolet has larger standard rear tires than the 2 Series (245/40R18 vs. 225/45R18).

The AMG C 43 Cabriolet’s standard 245/40R18 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 230i’s standard 45 series tires.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the AMG C-Class Cabriolet can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. Run-flat tires aren’t available on some tire packages on the 2 Series.

The AMG C-Class Cabriolet’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The 2 Series doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the AMG C-Class Cabriolet’s wheelbase is 3.9 inches longer than on the 2 Series (111.8 inches vs. 107.9 inches).

The AMG C-Class Cabriolet handles at .97 G’s, while the 230i Coupe pulls only .92 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the AMG C-Class Cabriolet 63 S has an electronically controlled liquid-filled front engine mount. A computer-controlled electric current in the liquid changes its viscosity, allowing the mount to dampen the engine completely at all RPMs. The 2 Series uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

The AMG C-Class Cabriolet has .7 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom and .9 inches more rear headroom than the 2 Series.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the 2 Series, the AMG C-Class Cabriolet has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The AMG C-Class Cabriolet’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The 2 Series doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The AMG C-Class Cabriolet’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children in the rear seat from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. BMW does not offer a locking feature on the 2 Series’ standard power windows.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the AMG C-Class Cabriolet has standard extendable sun visors. The 2 Series doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the AMG C-Class Cabriolet keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The 2 Series doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Mercedes AMG C-Class comes in coupe, convertible and sedan bodystyles; the BMW 2 Series isn’t available as a convertible or sedan.

The Mercedes C-Class outsold the BMW 2 Series by over two to one during 2022.
