Compare the2023 Porsche TaycanVS 2022 Genesis G90

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Taycan have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Genesis G90 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the Taycan and G90 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Taycan has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The G90’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Taycan helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The G90 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Taycan and the G90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Taycan’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the G90’s (12 vs. 7 years).

The Taycan can travel with zero emissions for 206 to 246 miles (dependent on model). The G90 can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Taycan’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The G90 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Taycan, as a pure battery electric vehicle, has no need to “idle” its motors in traffic: they only burn power when moving. The Taycan’s climate control systems still work completely when the vehicle is stopped. The G90 still runs its internal combustion engine whenever it’s stopped, burning excess fuel.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Porsche Taycan higher (10 out of 10) than the Genesis G90 (3 to 5). This means the Taycan produces up to 36.3 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the G90 every 15,000 miles.

The Taycan’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The G90 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the Taycan Turbo S’ brake rotors are larger than those on the G90:

The Taycan offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The G90 doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Taycan stops much shorter than the G90:

For better traction, the Taycan’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the G90 (F:265/35R21 & R:305/30R21 vs. F:245/45R19 & R:275/40R19).

The Taycan’s optional 265/35R21 front and 305/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G90’s 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Taycan offers optional 21-inch wheels. The G90’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The Taycan offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The G90 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Taycan offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Genesis doesn’t offer an active suspension on the G90.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Taycan is 2.5 inches wider in the front and 1.6 inches wider in the rear than the track on the G90.

The Taycan 4S handles at 1.03 G’s, while the G90 5.0 pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Taycan Turbo S executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3.3 seconds quicker than the G90 3.3T AWD (23.6 seconds @ .87 average G’s vs. 26.9 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Taycan w/Rear Axle Steering’s turning circle is 2.5 feet tighter than the G90’s (36.7 feet vs. 39.2 feet).

The Taycan is 9.5 inches shorter than the G90, making the Taycan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Taycan uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The G90 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Taycan has a much larger trunk than the G90 (17.2 vs. 15.7 cubic feet).

The Taycan’s available rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The G90 doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than Genesis. J.D. Power ranks Porsche third in service department satisfaction. With a 43% lower rating, Genesis is ranked 23rd.

The Taycan offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the G90.

The Taycan’s optional Active Parking Support can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The G90 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Porsche Taycan comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Genesis G90 isn’t available as a station wagon.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its January 2021 issue and they ranked the Porsche Taycan 4S higher than the Genesis G90 3.3T.

The Porsche Taycan outsold the Genesis G90 by almost five to one during 2022.
