For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Cayenne are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Porsche Cayenne has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Cayenne has a standard Multi-collision Brake System, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Cayenne’s standard Porsche Hill Control allows you to creep down safely. The I-Pace doesn’t offer Porsche Hill Control.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Cayenne helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Cayenne and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Cayenne’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the I-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Cayenne’s reliability 20 points higher than the I-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. With 10 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Porsche higher than Jaguar.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in long-term dependability. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Jaguar is rated below average.

The Cayenne S’ standard 2.9 turbo V6 produces 40 more horsepower (434 vs. 394) than the I-Pace’s electric motors. The Cayenne GTS’ standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 59 more horsepower (453 vs. 394) than the I-Pace’s electric motors. The Cayenne E-Hybrid’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 61 more horsepower (455 vs. 394) and 4 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 512) than the I-Pace’s electric motors. The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 276 more horsepower (670 vs. 394) and 151 lbs.-ft. more torque (663 vs. 512) than the I-Pace’s electric motors.

As tested in Motor Trend the Cayenne Turbo 4.0 turbo V8 is faster than the Jaguar I-Pace:

The Cayenne E-Hybrid’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 453 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The I-Pace’s range is only 217 to 246 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 15 minutes for only a 28% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 10 hours and 10 minutes.

For better stopping power the Cayenne’s brake rotors are larger than those on the I-Pace:

The Cayenne offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The I-Pace doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Cayenne Turbo has standard air brakes, which adjust the spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The I-Pace doesn’t offer air brakes.

For better traction, the Cayenne has larger standard tires than the I-Pace (F:255/55R19 & R:275/50R19 vs. 245/50R20). The Cayenne’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the I-Pace (F:285/40R21 & R:315/35R21 vs. 255/40R22).

The Cayenne’s optional 285/35R22 front and 315/30R22 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the I-Pace’s optional 40 series tires.

The Cayenne offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The I-Pace doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Cayenne offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Jaguar doesn’t offer an active suspension on the I-Pace.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Cayenne is 1.6 inches wider in the front and .4 inches wider in the rear than the track on the I-Pace.

The Cayenne handles at .96 G’s, while the I-Pace HSE pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Cayenne Turbo executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.7 seconds quicker than the I-Pace HSE (23.9 seconds @ .83 average G’s vs. 25.6 seconds @ .74 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Cayenne w/Rear Wheel Steering’s turning circle is 5.4 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (35.1 feet vs. 40.5 feet). The Cayenne’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (39.8 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Cayenne has a 1.7 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the I-Pace (8.2 vs. 6.5 inches), allowing the Cayenne to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Cayenne Air Suspension’s minimum ground clearance is 3.1 inches higher than on the I-Pace (9.6 vs. 6.5 inches).

The Porsche Cayenne may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 200 pounds less than the Jaguar I-Pace.

The Cayenne has .2 inches more front legroom, 1.5 inches more front shoulder room, .9 inches more rear headroom, 5.3 inches more rear legroom and 1.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Cayenne’s rear seats recline. The I-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Cayenne has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the I-Pace with its rear seat up (27.2 vs. 25.3 cubic feet). The Cayenne has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the I-Pace with its rear seat folded (60.3 vs. 53.6 cubic feet).

The Cayenne’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the I-Pace’s (7700 vs. 1653 pounds).

Standard trailer sway control on the Cayenne uses the Porsche Stability Management sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The I-Pace doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Porsche third in service department satisfaction. With a 21% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 10th.

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the I-Pace, the Cayenne offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle and climate settings and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Cayenne has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Cayenne offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The I-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Cayenne to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The I-Pace doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Cayenne’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The I-Pace doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Cayenne offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the I-Pace.

The Cayenne’s optional Active Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The I-Pace’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.

The Cayenne will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Cayenne will retain 47.75% to 53.12% of its original price after five years, while the I-Pace only retains 42.74%.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Porsche Cayenne, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Jaguar I-Pace isn't recommended.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Cayenne third among upper midsize premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The I-Pace isn’t in the top three in its category.

The Porsche Cayenne outsold the Jaguar I-Pace by over 37 to one during 2022.
