Both the Panamera and Charger have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Panamera has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Charger’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Porsche Panamera has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Charger doesn’t offer knee airbags.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Panamera helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard and even aims one of the vehicle’s headlights in the direction of the person or object. The Charger doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Panamera’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Charger.

The Panamera offers an optional Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Charger only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

Both the Panamera and the Charger have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes and blind spot warning systems.

The Panamera comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Charger’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Panamera’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the Charger’s (12 vs. 5 years).

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the Panamera have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of some of the engines in the Charger.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Panamera has a standard 850-amp battery. The Charger’s 730-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than Dodge vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in long-term dependability. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Dodge is rated lower.

The Panamera can travel with zero emissions for 17 to 19 miles (dependent on model). The Charger can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Panamera’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Charger doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Panamera’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Charger doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Panamera E-Hybrid’s standard fuel tank has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Charger (21.1 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Panamera’s standard fuel tank has 5.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Charger (23.7 vs. 18.5 gallons).

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Porsche Panamera higher (3 to 5 out of 10) than the Dodge Charger (1 to 5). This means the Panamera produces up to 39 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Charger every 15,000 miles.

The Panamera offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The Charger doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The Panamera’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the Charger SXT are solid, not vented.

The Panamera offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Charger doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the Panamera has larger standard tires than the Charger (F:265/45R19 & R:295/40R19 vs. 215/65R17).

The Panamera’s standard 265/45R19 front and 295/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Charger SXT’s standard 65 series tires. The Panamera’s optional 315/30R21 rear tires have a lower 30 series profile than the Charger Scat Pack Widebody’s 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Panamera has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Charger SXT. The Panamera’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the Charger R/T.

The Panamera offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Charger doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Panamera offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Dodge doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Charger.

The Panamera has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Charger doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Panamera is 1.3 inches wider in the front and .6 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Charger.

The design of the Porsche Panamera amounts to more than styling. The Panamera offers aerodynamic coefficients of drag from .29 to .35 Cd (depending on bodystyle and options). That is lower than the Charger (.304 to .38) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Panamera get better fuel mileage.

The front grille of the Panamera uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Charger doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Panamera offers available computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Charger doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Panamera Sport Turismo has 3.3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Charger (108 vs. 104.7).

The Panamera has .1 inches more front legroom and 1.4 inches more rear headroom than the Charger.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Panamera’s available rear seats recline. The Charger’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Panamera’s power liftgate can also be opened or closed by pressing a button. The Charger doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than Dodge. J.D. Power ranks Porsche third in service department satisfaction. With a 39% lower rating, Dodge is ranked 21st.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional in the Charger, the Panamera offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Panamera offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Charger doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Panamera’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Charger’s parking brake has to be released manually.

The Panamera’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Charger’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The Panamera has a standard locking fuel and charge port door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Charger doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The Panamera’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Charger’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Panamera offers an optional rear wiper. The Charger doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Panamera has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Charger doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Panamera also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the Panamera (except Sport Turismo) and power rear side window sunshades are optional in the Panamera to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Charger doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The Panamera’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Dodge charges extra for heated mirrors on the Charger.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Panamera’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Charger doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Panamera offers optional massaging front and rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Charger.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Porsche Panamera has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Charger doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The Panamera Sport Turismo offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Charger doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
