Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The Macan’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the AMG GLB.

Both the Macan and the AMG GLB have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

The Macan’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the AMG GLB’s (12 vs. 5 years).

The battery on the Macan is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Macan’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The AMG GLB’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Macan’s reliability 20 points higher than the AMG GLB.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in long-term dependability. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Mercedes is rated below average.

The Macan S’ standard 2.9 turbo V6 produces 73 more horsepower (375 vs. 302) and 88 lbs.-ft. more torque (383 vs. 295) than the AMG GLB’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Macan GTS’ standard 2.9 turbo V6 produces 132 more horsepower (434 vs. 302) and 110 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 295) than the AMG GLB’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

The Macan has 1.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG GLB (17.1 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Macan has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the AMG GLB; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the AMG GLB don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

The Macan has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Macan’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better maneuverability, the Macan’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the AMG GLB’s (39.2 feet vs. 41 feet).

The front grille of the Macan uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Macan has a much larger cargo volume than the AMG GLB with its rear seat up (17.2 vs. 12.4 cubic feet).

The Macan has a 4409 lbs. towing capacity. The AMG GLB has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stability Management on the Macan uses the Porsche Stability Management sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The engine in the Macan is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the AMG GLB. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than Mercedes. J.D. Power ranks Porsche third in service department satisfaction. With a 30% lower rating, Mercedes is ranked 18th.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Macan to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Macan has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the AMG GLB. The Macan also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated second row seats aren’t available in the AMG GLB.

The Macan will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Macan will retain 56.76% to 58.19% of its original price after five years, while the AMG GLB only retains 45.67%.
