Compare the2023 Porsche Macan VS 2023 Jaguar I-Pace

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Macan are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Porsche Macan has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Macan has a standard Multi-collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Macan’s standard Porsche Hill Control allows you to creep down safely. The I-Pace doesn’t offer Porsche Hill Control.

Both the Macan and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

The Macan’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the I-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Macan’s reliability 20 points higher than the I-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. With 10 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Porsche higher than Jaguar.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in long-term dependability. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Jaguar is rated below average.

The Macan GTS’ standard 2.9 turbo V6 produces 40 more horsepower (434 vs. 394) than the I-Pace’s electric motors.

For better stopping power the Macan GTS’ brake rotors are larger than those on the I-Pace:

For better traction, the Macan’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the I-Pace (F:265/40R21 & R:295/35R21 vs. 255/40R22).

The Macan’s optional 295/35R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the I-Pace’s optional 40 series tires.

The Macan S handles at .93 G’s, while the I-Pace HSE pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Macan’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (39.2 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Macan has a 1.4 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the I-Pace (7.9 vs. 6.5 inches), allowing the Macan to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Macan’s minimum ground clearance is 2.4 inches higher than on the I-Pace (8.9 vs. 6.5 inches).

The Porsche Macan may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 650 pounds less than the Jaguar I-Pace.

The Macan’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the I-Pace’s (4409 vs. 1653 pounds).

Standard Trailer Stability Management on the Macan uses the Porsche Stability Management sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The I-Pace doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Porsche third in service department satisfaction. With a 21% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 10th.

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the I-Pace, the Macan offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Macan has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Macan has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The I-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Macan also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Macan to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The I-Pace doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Macan will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Macan will retain 56.76% to 58.19% of its original price after five years, while the I-Pace only retains 42.74%.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Porsche Macan, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Jaguar I-Pace isn't recommended.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Macan third among compact premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The I-Pace isn’t in the top three.

The Macan was chosen as one of Car and Driver’s “Top Five/10Best Trucks” for 3 of the last 4 years. The I-Pace has never been a Car and Driver “Top Five/10Best Truck” pick.

The Porsche Macan outsold the Jaguar I-Pace by over 40 to one during 2022.
