In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Passport are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Corsair doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the Passport deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The Passport’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The Corsair’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Passport. But it costs extra on the Corsair.

Both the Passport and the Corsair have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Honda Passport is safer than the Lincoln Corsair:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH, results indicate that the Honda Passport is safer than the Lincoln Corsair:

Warranty

Honda pays for scheduled maintenance on the Passport for 2 years and 24,000 miles. Honda will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Lincoln only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Corsair.

There are over 55 percent more Honda dealers than there are Lincoln dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Passport’s warranty.

Reliability

The engine in the Passport has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engines in the Corsair have dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Passport third among midsize suvs in their 2022 Initial Quality Study. The Corsair isn’t in the top three in its category.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Honda 5 places higher in reliability than Lincoln.

Engine

The Passport’s 3.5 SOHC V6 produces 30 more horsepower (280 vs. 250) than the Corsair’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Passport’s 3.5 SOHC V6 produces 14 more horsepower (280 vs. 266) than the Corsair Grand Touring’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Motor Trend the Honda Passport is faster than the Lincoln Corsair turbo 4 cyl.:

Fuel Economy and Range

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Passport’s fuel efficiency. The Corsair doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Honda Passport uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Corsair with the 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder engine requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Passport has 8.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair Grand Touring’s standard fuel tank (19.5 vs. 11.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Passport has 3.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair’s standard fuel tank (19.5 vs. 16.2 gallons).

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Honda Passport, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Corsair.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Passport’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Corsair:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Passport has larger standard tires than the Corsair (245/60R18 vs. 225/60R18). The Passport EX-L/Elite’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Corsair (265/45R20 vs. 245/45R20).

The Passport has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Corsair doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Passport’s wheelbase is 4.2 inches longer than on the Corsair (110.9 inches vs. 106.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Passport is 4.3 inches wider in the front and 3.5 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Corsair.

Passenger Space

The Passport has 12.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Corsair (114.9 vs. 102.5).

The Passport has 3.5 inches more front hip room, 4.9 inches more front shoulder room, 1.3 inches more rear headroom, 1 inch more rear legroom, 6.5 inches more rear hip room and 5.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the Corsair.

Cargo Capacity

The Passport has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Corsair with its rear seat up (41.2 vs. 27.6 cubic feet). The Passport has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Corsair with its rear seat folded (77.7 vs. 57.6 cubic feet).

Towing

The Passport’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Corsair’s (5000 vs. 2000 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Passport has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Corsair doesn’t offer a locking fuel/charge port door.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Passport to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Corsair doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

When the Passport is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Corsair’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Honda Passport has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Corsair.

The Passport TrailSport/Elite has a 115-volt a/c outlet, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Corsair doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Economic Advantages

The Passport will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Passport will retain 50.47% to 51.56% of its original price after five years, while the Corsair only retains 47.08% to 47.36%.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Honda Passport and the Lincoln Corsair, based on reliability, safety and performance.

The Honda Passport outsold the Lincoln Corsair by 49% during 2022.
