The rear seatbelts optional on the EQS inflate when a collision is detected, helping to spread crash forces over a much larger area of the body and limiting head and neck movement. This can help prevent spinal and internal injuries. The Taycan doesn’t offer inflatable seatbelts.

The EQS has a standard Post Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Taycan doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The EQS has a standard Maneuvering Brake Function that use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Taycan doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The EQS has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Taycan’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the EQS has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Taycan.

The EQS’ driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Taycan doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the EQS and the Taycan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

There are almost 2 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EQS’ warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are better in initial quality than Porsche vehicles. With 11 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Mercedes higher than Porsche.

The EQS has more powerful engines than the Taycan:

For better traction, the EQS has larger standard tires than the Taycan (255/45R20 vs. 225/55R19). The AMG EQS’ tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Taycan (275/40R21 vs. 265/35R21).

The EQS’ standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Taycan’s standard 55 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EQS has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Taycan. The EQS’ optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Taycan.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the EQS can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Taycan doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The front and rear suspension of the EQS uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Taycan, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The EQS has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The EQS’ height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Taycan doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The EQS’ drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Taycan doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the EQS’ wheelbase is 12.2 inches longer than on the Taycan (126.4 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

The AMG EQS 4MATIC handles at .92 G’s, while the Taycan pulls only .89 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The design of the Mercedes EQS amounts to more than styling. The EQS has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .2 Cd. That is lower than the Taycan (.22 to .26) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the EQS get better fuel mileage.

For excellent aerodynamics, the EQS has standard flush composite headlights. The Taycan has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The EQS uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Taycan doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the EQS 580 4MATIC is quieter than the Taycan Turbo S (64 vs. 65 dB).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the EQS a Large car, while the Taycan is rated a Compact.

The EQS has 15 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Taycan (103 vs. 88).

The EQS has 2.2 inches more front headroom, 3.1 inches more front shoulder room, 1.2 inches more rear headroom, 8.2 inches more rear legroom and 5.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the Taycan.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EQS’ available rear seats recline. The Taycan’s rear seats don’t recline.

The EQS has a much larger trunk with its rear seat up than the Taycan (22 vs. 17.2 cubic feet).

The EQS’ standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Taycan.

If the windows are left open on the EQS the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Taycan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The EQS has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Taycan doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

Both the EQS and the Taycan offer optional massaging front seats. The EQS also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the Taycan.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the EQS first among large premium cars in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Taycan isn’t in the top three.
