The EQS’ driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The e-tron GT doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the EQS and the e-tron GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Mercedes EQS weighs 458 to 892 pounds more than the Audi e-tron GT. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

There are over 25 percent more Mercedes dealers than there are Audi dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the EQS’ warranty.

For better traction, the EQS has larger standard tires than the e-tron GT (255/45R20 vs. 245/45R20). The AMG EQS’ tires are larger than the largest tires available on the e-tron GT (275/40R21 vs. 265/35R21).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EQS offers optional 22-inch wheels. The e-tron GT’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the EQS can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The e-tron GT doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The EQS’ drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The e-tron GT doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the EQS’ wheelbase is 12.2 inches longer than on the e-tron GT (126.4 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

The AMG EQS 4MATIC handles at .92 G’s, while the e-tron GT Prestige pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the EQS w/10° rear-wheel steering’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the e-tron GT’s (35.8 feet vs. 38.1 feet).

The design of the Mercedes EQS amounts to more than styling. The EQS has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .2 Cd. That is significantly lower than the e-tron GT (.24) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the EQS get better fuel mileage.

The front grille of the EQS uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The e-tron GT doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The EQS uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The e-tron GT doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The EQS has 1.1 inches more front headroom, 3.1 inches more front shoulder room, .5 inches more rear headroom, 8.2 inches more rear legroom and 5.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the e-tron GT.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EQS’ available rear seats recline. The e-tron GT’s rear seats don’t recline.

The EQS has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The e-tron GT doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

Both the EQS and the e-tron GT offer optional massaging front seats. The EQS also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the e-tron GT.

The EQS is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The e-tron GT doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its January 2022 issue and they ranked the Mercedes EQS 580 4MATIC higher than the Audi e-tron GT Prestige.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the EQS first among large premium cars in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The e-tron GT isn’t in the top three.
