The Huracán offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Shelby GT500 doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Both the Huracán and the Shelby GT500 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available rear parking sensors.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Huracán’s fuel efficiency. The Shelby GT500 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Huracán’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. The Shelby GT500 doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Huracán has 5.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the Shelby GT500 (21.1 vs. 16 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

All wheel drive, available in the Huracán, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Ford Shelby GT500 is not available with all wheel drive.

The Huracán AWD has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Shelby GT500 doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Huracán stops shorter than the Shelby GT500:

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the Huracán can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Shelby GT500 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Huracán is 2.4 inches wider in the front than the average track on the Shelby GT500.

The Huracán Evo Coupe handles at 1.12 G’s, while the Shelby GT500 pulls only 1.01 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Huracán Evo Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.9 seconds quicker than the Shelby GT500 (22.2 seconds @ 1 average G’s vs. 24.1 seconds @ .85 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Huracán’s turning circle is 6.1 feet tighter than the Shelby GT500’s (37.7 feet vs. 43.8 feet). The Huracán’s turning circle is 6.4 feet tighter than the Shelby GT500 Track Package’s (37.7 feet vs. 44.1 feet).

The Lamborghini Huracán may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 800 to 1150 pounds less than the Ford Shelby GT500.

The Huracán Technica Coupe is 11.6 inches shorter than the Shelby GT500, making the Huracán easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Huracán is 7.8 inches shorter in height than the Shelby GT500, making the Huracán much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The Huracán has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Shelby GT500 doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The Huracán’s LED headlights produce a white, bright light using less electricity than the Shelby GT500’s xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. HID headlights can be slow to reach full brightness or power cycle, causing issues when flashing them to signal other vehicles; LED headlights light instantly. LED lights also last about three to four times as long.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Huracán has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Shelby GT500 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Huracán’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Ford charges extra for heated mirrors on the Shelby GT500.

The Lamborghini Huracán comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Ford Shelby GT500 isn’t available as a convertible.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its March 2021 issue and the Lamborghini Huracán Evo Coupe won out over the Ford Shelby GT500.

The Huracán was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2015. The Shelby GT500 has never been an “All Star.”
