In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. The Lexus LX has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The LX has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The LX has a standard Parking Support Brake that use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The LX has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Range Rover Sport’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the LX has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the LX 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Land Rover covers the Range Rover Sport. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Range Rover Sport ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 22 percent more Lexus dealers than there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the LX’s warranty.

The Range Rover Sport’s redline is at 6800 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The LX has a 5800 RPM redline.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the LX’s reliability 25 points higher than the Range Rover Sport.

The LX’s 3.4 turbo V6 produces 54 more horsepower (409 vs. 355) and 114 lbs.-ft. more torque (479 vs. 365) than the Range Rover Sport P360’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The LX’s 3.4 turbo V6 produces 14 more horsepower (409 vs. 395) and 73 lbs.-ft. more torque (479 vs. 406) than the Range Rover Sport P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The LX’s 3.4 turbo V6 produces 18 lbs.-ft. more torque (479 vs. 461) than the Range Rover Sport’s optional 5.0 supercharged V8.

On the EPA test cycle the LX 600 gets better fuel mileage than the Range Rover Sport SVR 5.0 supercharged V8 (17 city/22 hwy vs. 15 city/20 hwy).

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lexus LX, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Range Rover Sport.

The LX offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the Range Rover Sport can only carry up to 7.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the LX’s middle and third row seats recline. The Range Rover Sport’s third row seats don’t recline.

Pressing a switch automatically lowers or raises the LX Luxury’s second and third row seats, to make changing between cargo and passengers easier. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.
