For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Lexus LX are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Land Rover Range Rover doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the LX are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Range Rover doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Lexus LX has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Range Rover doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The LX has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Range Rover doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The LX has a standard Parking Support Brake that use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Range Rover doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

J.D. Power ranks Lexus above average in long-term dependability. With 33 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Land Rover is rated below average.

The LX’s 3.4 turbo V6 produces 14 more horsepower (409 vs. 395) and 73 lbs.-ft. more torque (479 vs. 406) than the Range Rover P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The LX’s 3.4 turbo V6 produces 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (479 vs. 457) than the Range Rover P440e’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid.

On the EPA test cycle the LX 600 gets better fuel mileage than the Range Rover P530 4.4 turbo V8 8-speed Auto running its gasoline engine (17 city/22 hwy vs. 16 city/21 hwy).

The LX has 2.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Range Rover 440e PHEV’s standard fuel tank (21.1 vs. 18.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The LX has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Range Rover; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which has mileage and speed limitations, or roadside assistance and a tow-truck.

The LX 600 F Sport handles at .75 G’s, while the Range Rover SWB First Edition pulls only .73 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The LX offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the Range Rover LWB can only carry up to 7.

The LX’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Range Rover doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The LX’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Range Rover does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The LX has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. A locking fuel/charge port door is only offered on the Range Rover P440e.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the LX has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Range Rover doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the LX has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The LX has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Range Rover.
