In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Ariya are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The R1S doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Ariya Platinum+ has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The R1S doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Ariya has standard Rear Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The R1S doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the Ariya and the R1S have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Ariya has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The R1S doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Nissan Ariya may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1500 to 2400 pounds less than the Rivian R1S.

The Ariya is 1 foot, 5.9 inches shorter than the R1S, making the Ariya easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Ariya is 7 inches narrower than the R1S, making the Ariya easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Ariya is 12 inches shorter in height than the R1S, making the Ariya much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The Ariya Platinum+ uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The R1S doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Ariya has a much larger cargo volume than the R1S 4dr Sport Utility with its rear seat up (22.8 vs. 17.6 cubic feet).

The Ariya’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The R1S’ tailgate’s top part raises up, but the bottom part lowers, getting in the way of loading and making an uneven surface for sliding cargo.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Ariya Platinum+’s liftgate can be opened just by waving your foot, leaving your hands completely free. The R1S doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its tailgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Ariya Engage/Evolve+/Empower+/Premiere/Platinum+ has a standard heads-up display that projects speed in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The R1S doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Both the Ariya and the R1S offer available heated front seats. The Ariya Engage/Evolve+/Empower+/Premiere/Platinum+ also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated second row seats aren’t available in the R1S.

The Ariya’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The R1S’ available navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.

The Ariya Premiere/Platinum+’s ProPILOT Park can parallel park by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The R1S doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Ariya is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The R1S doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
