An active infrared night vision system optional on the Urus helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera and near-infrared lights to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Urus’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 286 more horsepower (641 vs. 355) and 262 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 365) than the Range Rover Sport P360’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The Urus’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 246 more horsepower (641 vs. 395) and 222 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 405) than the Range Rover Sport P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The Urus’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 123 more horsepower (641 vs. 518) and 166 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 461) than the Range Rover Sport’s optional 5.0 supercharged V8. The Urus’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 66 more horsepower (641 vs. 575) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 516) than the Range Rover Sport SVR’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8.

The Urus has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the Urus has larger standard tires than the Range Rover Sport (F:285/45R21 & R:315/40R21 vs. 235/65R19). The Urus’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Range Rover Sport (F:285/35R23 & R:325/30R23 vs. 275/40R22).

The Urus’ standard 285/45R21 front and 315/40R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover Sport’s standard 65 series tires. The Urus’ optional 285/35R23 front and 325/30R23 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the Range Rover Sport’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Urus has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Range Rover Sport. The Urus’ optional 23-inch wheels are larger than the 22-inch wheels optional on the Range Rover Sport.

The Urus offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Land Rover doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Range Rover Sport.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Urus’ wheelbase is 3.1 inches longer than on the Range Rover Sport (118.2 inches vs. 115.1 inches).

The Urus handles at 1.02 G’s, while the Range Rover Sport HSE pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Urus executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 4.1 seconds quicker than the Range Rover Sport HSE (23.5 seconds @ .87 average G’s vs. 27.6 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Urus’ turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the Range Rover Sport’s (38.9 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The Urus has 1.4 inches more front headroom, 2.1 inches more front legroom and 3 inches more rear legroom than the Range Rover Sport.

The Urus has a much larger cargo volume than the Range Rover Sport with its rear seat up (21.8 vs. 10.8 cubic feet).

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Urus to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.
