Compare the2023 Fiat 500X VS 2023 Jeep Renegade

The 500X Sport’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Renegade doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the 500X and the Renegade have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, front and rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The 500X comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Renegade’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

On the EPA test cycle the 500X gets better mileage than the Renegade:

The 500X AWD’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Renegade Trailhawk’s standard 65 series tires.

The 500X has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Renegade’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The 500X has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Renegade doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The 500X handles at .78 G’s, while the Renegade Latitude pulls only .74 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The 500X Pop executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1 seconds quicker than the Renegade Trailhawk (28 seconds @ .61 average G’s vs. 29 seconds @ .58 average G’s).

The design of the Fiat 500X amounts to more than styling. The 500X has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .35 Cd. That is lower than the Renegade (.36 to .37). A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the 500X get better fuel mileage.

For excellent aerodynamics, the 500X has standard flush composite headlights. The Renegade has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The 500X has .2 inches more front legroom, .2 inches more front hip room and .3 inches more rear hip room than the Renegade.

The 500X’s cargo area is larger than the Renegade’s in almost every dimension:

The 500X’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Renegade’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

The 500X’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Renegade Latitude/Altitude/(Red)’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The 500X’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Renegade’s standard halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

Insurance will cost less for the 500X owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the 500X will cost $135 less than the Renegade over a five-year period.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the 500X is less expensive to operate than the Renegade because it costs $318 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the 500X than the Renegade, including $229 less for a muffler, $155 less for front brake pads, $451 less for a starter, $390 less for front struts and $186 less for a timing belt/chain.
