Safety

Both the Grecale and Macan have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Grecale has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Macan’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Grecale has standard Active Park Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Macan doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Grecale’s optional rear cross-path warning system uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The Macan doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

The Grecale’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Macan doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Grecale and the Macan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

Reliability

The Macan’s redline is at 6800 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The Grecale has a 5800 RPM redline.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Grecale Trofeo’s fuel efficiency. The Macan doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Transmission

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Maserati Grecale, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the Macan.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Grecale’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Macan:

13.6 inches

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Grecale’s wheelbase is 3.7 inches longer than on the Macan (114.2 inches vs. 110.5 inches).

Chassis

The design of the Maserati Grecale amounts to more than styling. The Grecale has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .326 Cd. That is lower than the Macan (.35 to .37) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Grecale get better fuel mileage.

Cargo Capacity

The Grecale has a much larger cargo volume than the Macan with its rear seat up (18.9 vs. 17.2 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the Grecale’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Macan doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Grecale’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Macan doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

The Grecale’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Macan’s (5071 vs. 4409 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Porsche Macan is only 4409 pounds. The Grecale offers up to a 5516 lbs. towing capacity.

Ergonomics

The Grecale has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Macan doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Grecale’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Macan.

The Grecale’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Macan has neither an oil pressure gauge nor a temperature gauge.

The Grecale offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Macan doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the Grecale the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Macan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Grecale to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Macan doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Grecale has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Macan only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Grecale has standard extendable sun visors. The Macan doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Grecale offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Macan doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
