Safety

Both the Grecale and AMG GLC have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Grecale has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The AMG GLC’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Maserati Grecale has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The AMG GLC doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Grecale has standard Active Park Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The AMG GLC doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Grecale’s standard Hill Descend Control allows you to creep down safely. The AMG GLC doesn’t offer Hill Descend Control.

Both the Grecale and the AMG GLC have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Engine

The Grecale Trofeo’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 138 more horsepower (523 vs. 385) and 73 lbs.-ft. more torque (457 vs. 384) than the AMG GLC’s 3.0 turbo V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Grecale gets better mileage than the AMG GLC:

MPG

Grecale

AWD

GT 2.0 turbo 4-cyl. Hybrid

22 city/29 hwy

Modena 2.0 turbo 4-cyl. Hybrid

22 city/29 hwy

AMG GLC

AWD

3.0 turbo V6

18 city/25 hwy

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Grecale Trofeo’s fuel efficiency. The AMG GLC doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Grecale GT/Modena’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The AMG GLC doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Transmission

The Grecale Trofeo’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The AMG GLC doesn’t offer launch control.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Grecale’s wheelbase is 1.1 inches longer than on the AMG GLC (114.2 inches vs. 113.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Grecale is 1.7 inches wider in the rear than on the AMG GLC.

Cargo Capacity

The Grecale has a much larger cargo volume than the AMG GLC with its rear seat up (18.9 vs. 17.6 cubic feet).

Towing

The Grecale’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the AMG GLC’s (5071 vs. 3500 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Mercedes AMG GLC is only 3500 pounds. The Grecale offers up to a 5516 lbs. towing capacity.

Trailer Sway Mitigation is standard on the Grecale, using the Electronic Stability Program sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. A trailer sway program costs extra on the AMG GLC.

Ergonomics

The Grecale’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The AMG GLC does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Grecale has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the AMG GLC only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.
