Compare the2023 Ford Mustang Mach-EVS 2022 MINI SE Countryman

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Ford Mustang Mach-E are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The MINI SE Countryman doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests front crash prevention systems. With a score of 6 points, IIHS rates the Automatic Emergency Braking in the Mustang Mach-E as “Superior.” The SE Countryman scores only 3 points and is rated only “Advanced.”

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Mustang Mach-E has a standard Reverse Brake Assist that use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The SE Countryman doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Mustang Mach-E offers an optional 360-Degree Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The SE Countryman only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The Mustang Mach-E’s blind spot warning system uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. The SE Countryman doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Mustang Mach-E’s standard rear cross-path warning system uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The SE Countryman doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

The Mustang Mach-E’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The SE Countryman doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Mustang Mach-E and the SE Countryman have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E weighs 408 to 976 pounds more than the MINI SE Countryman. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, with its optional vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its available headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Mustang Mach-E the rating of “Top Safety Pick” for 2022, a rating granted to only 172 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The SE Countryman last would have qualified as a “Top Safety Pick” in 2017.

Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the Mustang Mach-E 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than MINI covers the SE Countryman. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the SE Countryman ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 29 times as many Ford dealers as there are MINI dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang Mach-E’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than MINI vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford above average in initial quality. With 1 more problems per 100 vehicles, MINI is rated lower.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Ford vehicles are more reliable than MINI vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Ford 1 place higher in reliability than MINI.

The Mustang Mach-E’s standard electric motor produces 45 more horsepower (266 vs. 221) and 33 lbs.-ft. more torque (317 vs. 284) than the SE Countryman’s 1.5 turbo 3-cylinder hybrid. The Mustang Mach-E eAWD’s standard electric motors produces 45 more horsepower (266 vs. 221) and 144 lbs.-ft. more torque (428 vs. 284) than the SE Countryman’s 1.5 turbo 3-cylinder hybrid. The Mustang Mach-E ER’s standard electric motor produces 69 more horsepower (290 vs. 221) and 33 lbs.-ft. more torque (317 vs. 284) than the SE Countryman’s 1.5 turbo 3-cylinder hybrid. The Mustang Mach-E ER eAWD’s standard electric motors produces 125 more horsepower (346 vs. 221) and 144 lbs.-ft. more torque (428 vs. 284) than the SE Countryman’s 1.5 turbo 3-cylinder hybrid. The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition’s optional electric motors produces 259 more horsepower (480 vs. 221) and 350 lbs.-ft. more torque (634 vs. 284) than the SE Countryman’s 1.5 turbo 3-cylinder hybrid.

The Mustang Mach-E can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 224 to 312 miles. The SE Countryman has to start its internal combustion engine after only 18 miles.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Ford Mustang Mach-E higher (10 out of 10) than the MINI SE Countryman (3). This means the Mustang Mach-E produces up to 36.3 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the SE Countryman every 15,000 miles.

The Mustang Mach-E stops much shorter than the SE Countryman:

For better traction, the Mustang Mach-E GT’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the SE Countryman (245/45R20 vs. 225/50R18).

The Mustang Mach-E GT’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the SE Countryman’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Mustang Mach-E GT has standard 20-inch wheels. The SE Countryman’s largest wheels are only 18-inches.

The Mustang Mach-E offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The SE Countryman’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Mustang Mach-E’s wheelbase is 12.4 inches longer than on the SE Countryman (117.5 inches vs. 105.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Mustang Mach-E is 1.9 inches wider in the front and 1.7 inches wider in the rear than on the SE Countryman.

The Mustang Mach-E Premium 4 handles at .85 G’s, while the SE Countryman pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Mustang Mach-E Premium 4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.3 seconds quicker than the SE Countryman (26.2 seconds @ .69 average G’s vs. 27.5 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

The front grille of the Mustang Mach-E uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The SE Countryman doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Mustang Mach-E has 8.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the SE Countryman (104 vs. 95.4).

The Mustang Mach-E has 2.9 inches more front legroom, 2.8 inches more front shoulder room, 1.2 inches more rear headroom, .5 inches more rear legroom and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the SE Countryman.

The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the SE Countryman with its rear seat up (34.4 vs. 17.2 cubic feet). The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the SE Countryman with its rear seat folded (64.4 vs. 47.4 cubic feet).

The Mustang Mach-E has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The SE Countryman doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Mustang Mach-E’s exterior PIN entry system. The SE Countryman doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Mustang Mach-E has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the SE Countryman only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The Mustang Mach-E’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the SE Countryman’s standard halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Mustang Mach-E’s available headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the SE Countryman’s headlights are rated “Marginal” to “Poor.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Mustang Mach-E has standard extendable sun visors. The SE Countryman doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Mustang Mach-E has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the SE Countryman.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the SE Countryman.

The Mustang Mach-E’s optional Active Park Assist 2.0 can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The SE Countryman’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

The Mustang Mach-E is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The SE Countryman doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
