Compare the2023 Ford Mustang Mach-EVS 2022 Mercedes EQB

Both the Mustang Mach-E and EQB have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Mustang Mach-E has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The EQB’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Mustang Mach-E has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The EQB doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Mustang Mach-E has a standard Reverse Brake Assist that use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The EQB doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Mustang Mach-E’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the EQB.

Both the Mustang Mach-E and the EQB have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, with its optional vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its available headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Mustang Mach-E the rating of “Top Safety Pick” for 2022, a rating granted to only 175 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The EQB has not been tested, yet.

Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the Mustang Mach-E 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Mercedes covers the EQB. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the EQB ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 8 times as many Ford dealers as there are Mercedes dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang Mach-E’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford above average in initial quality. With 22 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is rated below average.

J.D. Power ranks Ford above average in long-term dependability. With 4 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Mercedes is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Ford vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Ford 6 places higher in reliability than Mercedes.

For better traction, the Mustang Mach-E GT’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the EQB (245/45R20 vs. 235/50R19).

The Mustang Mach-E GT’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the EQB’s optional 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Mustang Mach-E GT has standard 20-inch wheels. The EQB’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The Mustang Mach-E has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The EQB’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Mustang Mach-E’s wheelbase is 6.2 inches longer than on the EQB (117.5 inches vs. 111.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Mustang Mach-E is 1.1 inches wider in the front and 1 inch wider in the rear than on the EQB.

The Mustang Mach-E GT handles at .92 G’s, while the EQB 350 pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Mustang Mach-E Premium 4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.2 seconds quicker than the EQB 350 (26.2 seconds @ .69 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

The Ford Mustang Mach-E may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 300 pounds less than the Mercedes EQB.

The Mustang Mach-E has 2.2 inches more front legroom, 1.7 inches more front shoulder room and 1 inch more rear shoulder room than the EQB.

The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the EQB with its rear seat up (34.4 vs. 5.1 cubic feet). The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the EQB with its rear seat folded (64.4 vs. 62 cubic feet).

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Mustang Mach-E’s exterior PIN entry system. The EQB doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Mustang Mach-E has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the EQB only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Mustang Mach-E has standard extendable sun visors. The EQB doesn’t offer extendable visors.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the EQB.

The Mustang Mach-E is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The EQB doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Mustang Mach-E as the 2021 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The EQB has never been chosen.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E outsold the Mercedes EQB by almost 24 to one during 2022.
