Both the Mustang Mach-E and RX have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Mustang Mach-E has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The RX’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Mustang Mach-E has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The RX doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the Mustang Mach-E and the RX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard front crash prevention system, and its headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Mustang Mach-E its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2019, a rating granted to only 134 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The RX is only a standard “Top Safety Pick” for 2019.

There are over 12 times as many Ford dealers as there are Lexus dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang Mach-E’s warranty.

The Mustang Mach-E can travel with zero emissions for 224 to 312 miles (dependent on model). The RX can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regardless of its engine, regenerative brakes improve the Mustang Mach-E’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. Lexus only offers a regenerative brake system on the RX Hybrid.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Ford Mustang Mach-E higher (10 out of 10) than the Lexus RX (5 to 7). This means the Mustang Mach-E produces up to 19.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the RX every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the Mustang Mach-E GT’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the RX (245/45R20 vs. 235/65R18).

The Mustang Mach-E’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the RX’s standard 65 series tires. The Mustang Mach-E GT’s tires have a lower 45 series profile than the RX’s optional 55 series tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Mustang Mach-E’s wheelbase is 7.7 inches longer than on the RX (117.5 inches vs. 109.8 inches).

The Mustang Mach-E’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (48.7% to 51.3%) than the RX’s (57% to 43%). This gives the Mustang Mach-E more stable handling and braking.

The Mustang Mach-E GT handles at .92 G’s, while the RX 350 F Sport AWD pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Mustang Mach-E Premium 4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.3 seconds quicker than the RX 450h (26.2 seconds @ .69 average G’s vs. 27.5 seconds @ .65 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Mustang Mach-E’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the RX’s (38.1 feet vs. 38.8 feet).

The Mustang Mach-E is 6.9 inches shorter than the RX, making the Mustang Mach-E easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Mustang Mach-E uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The RX doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the RX with its rear seat up (34.4 vs. 16 cubic feet). The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the RX with its rear seat folded (64.4 vs. 32.6 cubic feet).

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Mustang Mach-E’s exterior PIN entry system. The RX doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Mustang Mach-E’s available headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the RX’s headlights are rated “Acceptable” to “Marginal.”

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the RX.

The Mustang Mach-E’s optional Active Park Assist 2.0 can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The RX doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
