For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Ford Edge are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Edge has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The Edge has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Range Rover Evoque’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Edge has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Range Rover Evoque.

Both the Edge and the Range Rover Evoque have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors and available front and rear parking sensors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its available headlight’s “Acceptable” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Edge the rating of “Top Safety Pick” for 2022, a rating granted to only 175 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Range Rover Evoque has not been tested, yet.

Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the Edge 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Land Rover covers the Range Rover Evoque. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Range Rover Evoque ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 15 times as many Ford dealers as there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Edge’s warranty.

The Edge has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Edge’s reliability 32 points higher than the Range Rover Evoque.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford above average in initial quality. With 26 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is rated below average.

The Edge’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 4 more horsepower (250 vs. 246) and 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (280 vs. 269) than the Range Rover Evoque’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Edge ST’s standard 2.7 turbo V6 produces 39 more horsepower (335 vs. 296) and 85 lbs.-ft. more torque (380 vs. 295) than the Range Rover Evoque HST’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Ford Edge uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Range Rover Evoque requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Edge has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Edge ST’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Range Rover Evoque are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the Edge has larger standard tires than the Range Rover Evoque (245/60R18 vs. 235/60R18). The Edge ST’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Range Rover Evoque (265/40R21 vs. 245/45R21).

The Edge ST’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover Evoque’s optional 45 series tires.

The Edge’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Edge’s wheelbase is 6.7 inches longer than on the Range Rover Evoque (112.2 inches vs. 105.5 inches).

The Edge ST handles at .88 G’s, while the Range Rover Evoque SE pulls only .77 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Edge ST executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.5 seconds quicker than the Range Rover Evoque SE (26 seconds @ .7 average G’s vs. 28.5 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

The front grille of the Edge uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Edge ST uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Edge has 1.3 inches more front headroom, 2.6 inches more front legroom, 3.7 inches more front shoulder room, 2 inches more rear headroom, 6.6 inches more rear legroom and 5.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Range Rover Evoque.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Edge’s rear seats recline. The Range Rover Evoque’s rear seats don’t recline.

The front step up height for the Edge is 1.2 inches lower than the Range Rover Evoque (17.5” vs. 18.7”). The Edge’s rear step up height is .5 inches lower than the Range Rover Evoque’s (18” vs. 18.5”).

The Edge has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Range Rover Evoque with its rear seat up (39.2 vs. 21.6 cubic feet). The Edge has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Range Rover Evoque with its rear seat folded (73.4 vs. 50.5 cubic feet).

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the Edge SEL/Titanium/ST’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

A standard locking glovebox and optional locking center console (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the Edge. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The Edge ST can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Edge can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Range Rover Evoque can’t be towed flat on the ground.

The Edge’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Range Rover Evoque’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Consumer Reports rated the Edge’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the Range Rover Evoque’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Edge Titanium/ST offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Edge has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Edge Titanium/ST keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Edge (except SE) offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Insurance will cost less for the Edge owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Edge will cost $1830 to $3520 less than the Range Rover Evoque over a five-year period.

The Edge will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Edge will retain 48.21% to 53.65% of its original price after five years, while the Range Rover Evoque only retains 47.58% to 47.73%.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Edge is less expensive to operate than the Range Rover Evoque because typical repairs cost much less on the Edge than the Range Rover Evoque, including $69 less for front brake pads, $427 less for a starter, $293 less for fuel injection, $317 less for a fuel pump and $353 less for front struts.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Ford Edge will be $12599 to $14810 less than for the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.
