In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Navigator L are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Urus doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The middle row seatbelts optional on the Navigator L inflate when a collision is detected, helping to spread crash forces over a much larger area of the body and limiting head and neck movement. This can help prevent spinal and internal injuries. The Urus doesn’t offer inflatable seatbelts.

The Navigator L has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Urus doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Navigator L has standard Reverse Brake Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Urus doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Navigator L’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Urus.

The Navigator L has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Urus’ blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Navigator L has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Urus.

The Navigator L’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Urus doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The Navigator L has standard 911 Assist, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Urus doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Navigator L and the Urus have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, rearview cameras and available all wheel drive.

The Lincoln Navigator L weighs 1082 to 1212 pounds more than the Lamborghini Urus. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

There are almost 20 times as many Lincoln dealers as there are Lamborghini dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Navigator L’s warranty.

Reliability

The Navigator L has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Urus doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Navigator L RWD gets better fuel mileage than the Urus (17 city/23 hwy vs. 12 city/17 hwy).

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Navigator L’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Urus doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Lincoln Navigator L uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Urus requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Navigator L has 8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Urus’ standard fuel tank (27.8 vs. 19.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Navigator L has 5.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Urus’ optional fuel tank (27.8 vs. 22.5 gallons).

The Navigator L has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Urus doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Transmission

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lincoln Navigator L, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Urus.

Tires and Wheels

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Navigator L has standard 22-inch wheels. Smaller 21-inch wheels are standard on the Urus.

The Lincoln Navigator L’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Lamborghini Urus only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Suspension and Handling

The Navigator L’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Urus doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Navigator L’s wheelbase is 13.4 inches longer than on the Urus (131.6 inches vs. 118.2 inches).

The Navigator L’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (49.9% to 50.1%) than the Urus’ (56% to 44%). This gives the Navigator L more stable handling and braking.

For greater off-road capability the Navigator L has a 1.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Urus (9.6 vs. 8.4 inches), allowing the Navigator L to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The front grille of the Navigator L uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Urus doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Navigator L uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Urus doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Navigator Black Label L 4x4 is quieter than the Urus:

Passenger Space

The Navigator L offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the Urus can only carry up to 5.

The Navigator L has 67.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Urus (172.1 vs. 105).

The Navigator L has .9 inches more front headroom, 2.3 inches more front legroom, 6.3 inches more front shoulder room, 2 inches more rear headroom, 1.1 inches more rear legroom and 8.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the Urus.

Cargo Capacity

The Navigator L’s cargo area provides more volume than the Urus.

The Navigator L’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the liftgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Urus’ rear cargo window doesn’t open.

Towing

Maximum trailer towing in the Lamborghini Urus is limited to 7716 pounds. The Navigator L offers up to a 8400 lbs. towing capacity.

The Navigator L 4WD with optional equipment can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Navigator L can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Urus can’t be towed flat on the ground.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Navigator L uses the AdvanceTrac® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Urus doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The Navigator L has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Urus doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Navigator L’s exterior PIN entry system. The Urus doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system.

The Navigator L’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Urus’

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Navigator L has a standard rear wiper. The Urus doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Standard air conditioned seats in the front and second seat rows keep the Navigator L’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Urus doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Navigator L has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Urus.

Both the Navigator L and the Urus offer optional massaging front seats. The Navigator L also offers optional massaging second row seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the Urus.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Lincoln Navigator L has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Urus doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The Navigator L has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Urus doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Navigator L’s Active Park Assist 2.0 can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Urus doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The Navigator L is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Urus doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Navigator as the 2018 North American Truck of the Year. The Urus has never been chosen.

The Lincoln Navigator outsold the Lamborghini Urus by over 8 to one during the 2022 model year.
