For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Lincoln Navigator are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Aston Martin DBX doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Navigator are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The DBX doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The middle row seatbelts optional on the Navigator Reserve/Black Label inflate when a collision is detected, helping to spread crash forces over a much larger area of the body and limiting head and neck movement. This can help prevent spinal and internal injuries. The DBX doesn’t offer inflatable seatbelts.

The Navigator has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The DBX doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Navigator has standard Reverse Brake Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The DBX doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Navigator’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The DBX doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The Navigator has standard 911 Assist, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The DBX doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Navigator and the DBX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The Lincoln Navigator weighs 547 to 915 pounds more than the Aston Martin DBX. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Navigator comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The DBX’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

Lincoln’s powertrain warranty covers the Navigator 3 years longer than Aston Martin covers the DBX. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the DBX ends after only 3 years.

There are almost 20 times as many Lincoln dealers as there are Aston Martin dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Navigator’s warranty.

Reliability

The DBX’s redline is at 7000 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The Navigator has a 6000 RPM redline.

The Navigator has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The DBX doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Navigator gets better mileage than the DBX:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Lincoln Navigator uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The DBX requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Navigator has 1.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the DBX (23.6 vs. 22.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Lincoln Navigator higher (6 out of 10) than the Aston Martin DBX (5). This means the Navigator produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the DBX every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lincoln Navigator, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a nine-speed automatic is available for the DBX.

Tires and Wheels

The Lincoln Navigator’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Aston Martin DBX only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Suspension and Handling

The Navigator’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The DBX doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Navigator’s wheelbase is 2 inches longer than on the DBX (122.5 inches vs. 120.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Navigator is .7 inches wider in the front and 1.7 inches wider in the rear than on the DBX.

The Navigator’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (49.2% to 50.8%) than the DBX’s (52.7% to 47.3%). This gives the Navigator more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the Navigator’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the DBX’s (40 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Navigator has a greater minimum ground clearance than the DBX (9.6 vs. 9.3 inches), allowing the Navigator to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The front grille of the Navigator uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The DBX doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Navigator uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The DBX doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Navigator Black Label 4WD is quieter than the DBX:

Passenger Space

The Navigator offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the DBX can only carry 5.

The Navigator has 63 cubic feet more passenger volume than the DBX (172 vs. 109).

The Navigator has .9 inches more front headroom, 2.2 inches more front legroom, 6.8 inches more front shoulder room, .2 inches more rear legroom and 10.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the DBX.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Navigator’s middle and third row seats recline. The DBX’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Navigator’s cargo area provides more volume than the DBX.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Navigator easier. The Navigator’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29 inches, while the DBX’s liftover is 31.9 inches.

The Navigator’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the liftgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The DBX’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

Towing

The Navigator’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the DBX’s (6200 vs. 5940 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Aston Martin DBX is only 5940 pounds. The Navigator offers up to a 8700 lbs. towing capacity.

Servicing Ease

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the Navigator to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Aston Martin doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the DBX.

Ergonomics

The Navigator has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The DBX doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Navigator Reserve/Black Label has a standard heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The DBX doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Navigator’s exterior PIN entry system. The DBX doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Navigator has a standard rear wiper. The DBX doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Navigator has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The DBX doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Navigator has standard extendable sun visors. The DBX doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Navigator has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the DBX.

The Navigator offers optional massaging front and second row seats, which keep the driver and middle row passengers. Massaging seats aren’t available in the DBX.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Lincoln Navigator has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the DBX.

The Navigator has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The DBX doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Navigator’s Active Park Assist 2.0 can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The DBX’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

Model Availability

The Navigator is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The DBX doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Navigator as the 2018 North American Truck of the Year. The DBX has never been chosen.

The Lincoln Navigator outsold the Aston Martin DBX by almost 15 to one during the 2022 model year.
