The Jeep Wagoneer L has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Suburban doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Wagoneer L has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Suburban doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Wagoneer L Grand helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Suburban doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Wagoneer L has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Suburban’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Wagoneer L has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Suburban.

The Wagoneer L’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Suburban doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Wagoneer L and the Suburban have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

The Wagoneer L’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Suburban’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance on the Wagoneer L for 3 years and unlimited miles. Jeep will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance (up to 3 oil changes). Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Suburban.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the Wagoneer L have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of some of the engines in the Suburban.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Wagoneer L has a 240-amp alternator. The Suburban’s standard 220-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Wagoneer L has a standard 900-amp battery. The Suburban’s standard 730-amp battery and largest (Diesel) 850 amp battery aren’t as powerful.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Suburban LT/RST/Z71/Premier/High Country, the Wagoneer L Grand has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, foot pedal distance, outside mirror angle and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Wagoneer L Grand’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches. The Suburban’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

The Wagoneer L has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Suburban doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Wagoneer L offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Suburban doesn’t offer cornering lights.
