Compare the2023 BMW M2 VS 2022 Mercedes AMG C-Class Coupe

The M2 has standard Post-Crash Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The AMG C-Class Coupe doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The M2’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the AMG C-Class Coupe.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the M2 has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the AMG C-Class Coupe.

Both the M2 and the AMG C-Class Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

The M2’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the AMG C-Class Coupe’s (12 vs. 5 years).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the M2 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG C-Class Coupe.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW above average in initial quality. With 24 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW above average in long-term dependability. With 5 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Mercedes is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 8 places higher in reliability than Mercedes.

The M2’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 68 more horsepower (453 vs. 385) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (406 vs. 384) than the AMG C-Class Coupe’s 3.0 turbo V6.

Regenerative brakes improve the M2’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The AMG C-Class Coupe doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The M2 offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and fuel economy. The AMG C-Class Coupe doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

The M2’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The AMG C-Class Coupe doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the M2’s brake rotors are larger than those on the AMG C-Class Coupe:

For better traction, the M2 has larger tires than the AMG C-Class Coupe (F:275/35R19 & R:285/30R20 vs. F:225/45R18 & R:245/40R18). The M2’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the AMG C-Class Coupe (F:275/35R19 & R:285/30R20 vs. F:225/40R19 & R:255/35R19).

The M2’s 275/35R19 front and 285/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG C 43 Coupe’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires. The M2’s tires are lower profile than the AMG C 43 Coupe’s optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the M2 has standard 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the AMG C 43 Coupe. The AMG C-Class Coupe’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the M2 is .6 inches wider in the front and 1.9 inches wider in the rear than on the AMG C-Class Coupe.

The M2 is 4.5 inches shorter than the AMG C-Class Coupe, making the M2 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The M2 has 8.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the AMG C-Class Coupe (88 vs. 79.3).

The M2 has 1.1 inches more front shoulder room and .2 inches more rear legroom than the AMG C-Class Coupe.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that BMW service is better than Mercedes. J.D. Power ranks BMW 7th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 17% lower rating, Mercedes is ranked 18th.

On extremely cold winter days, the M2’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The AMG C-Class Coupe doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.
