The Vantage has standard front seat side-impact airbags and head airbags, which act as a forgiving barrier between the passengers and the door. Combined with high-strength steel door beams this system increases protection from broadside collisions. The GT doesn't offer side-impact airbags or side airbag protection for the head.

The Vantage has a standard Birds-eye Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The GT only offers a rear monitor.

The Vantage’s blind spot warning system uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. The GT doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

Both the Vantage and the GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and daytime running lights.

Warranty

The Vantage’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the GT’s (10 vs. 5 years).

Engine

The Vantage’s optional 5.2 turbo V12 produces 43 more horsepower (690 vs. 647) than the GT’s 3.5 turbo V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Vantage gets better mileage than the GT:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Vantage V12’s fuel efficiency. The GT doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Vantage’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The GT doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Vantage has 4.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the GT (19.3 vs. 15.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Aston Martin Vantage, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the GT.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Vantage’s brake rotors are larger than those on the GT:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Vantage has larger front tires than the GT (255/40R20 vs. 245/35R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Vantage F1/V12 has standard 21-inch wheels. The GT’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Vantage has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the GT; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the Vantage uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the GT, which uses torsion bars in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The Vantage has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The GT doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The Vantage’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the GT’s (40.7% to 59.3%). This gives the Vantage more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the Vantage’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the GT’s (38.7 feet vs. 40 feet).

Chassis

The Vantage is 11.7 inches shorter than the GT, making the Vantage easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Vantage Coupe is quieter than the GT:

Passenger Space

The Vantage has 4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the GT (47 vs. 43).

The Vantage has 1.8 inches more front headroom and 4.3 inches more front shoulder room than the GT.

Cargo Capacity

The Vantage Coupe has a much larger trunk than the GT (12.2 vs. .4 cubic feet).

Servicing Ease

The Vantage uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The GT uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the Vantage to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Ford doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the GT.

Ergonomics

When three different drivers share the Vantage, the memory system makes it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver and front passenger’s seat positions, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle. The GT doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Vantage’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The GT doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

If the windows are left open on the Vantage the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the GT can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Vantage’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The GT’s intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Vantage to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The GT doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Vantage has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The GT doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Vantage’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. The GT doesn’t offer heated side mirrors.

When the Vantage is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The GT’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Vantage’s standard rear view mirror has an automatic dimming feature. This mirror can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on it, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The GT doesn’t offer the luxury of an automatic dimming rear view mirror.

The Vantage has standard heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the GT.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Vantage keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The GT doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the Vantage’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The GT doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The Vantage’s standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The GT doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

The Vantage’s Auto Parking can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The GT doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The Aston Martin Vantage comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Ford GT isn’t available as a convertible.
