The Vantage has a standard Birds-eye Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The R8 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The Vantage’s blind spot warning system uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. The R8 doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

Both the Vantage and the R8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and front and rear parking sensors.

The Vantage comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The R8’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Vantage V12’s fuel efficiency. The R8 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Aston Martin Vantage higher (3 to 5 out of 10) than the Audi R8 (1). This means the Vantage produces up to 39 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the R8 every 15,000 miles.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Aston Martin Vantage, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the R8.

The Vantage has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The R8’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Vantage has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The R8 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Vantage’s wheelbase is 2.2 inches longer than on the R8 (106.5 inches vs. 104.3 inches).
