Compare the2023 Mitsubishi Outlander SportVS 2022 Lincoln Corsair

The Outlander Sport has standard Active Front Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Front Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Corsair doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Outlander Sport and the Corsair have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH, results indicate that the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is safer than the Lincoln Corsair:

The Outlander Sport comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Corsair’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Mitsubishi’s powertrain warranty covers the Outlander Sport 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Lincoln covers the Corsair. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Corsair ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The Outlander Sport’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Corsair’s (7 vs. 5 years).

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Outlander Sport’s reliability 23 points higher than the Corsair.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Mitsubishi vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Mitsubishi 6 places higher in reliability than Lincoln.

On the EPA test cycle the Outlander Sport gets better mileage than the Corsair running its gasoline engine:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Corsair with the 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder engine requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Outlander Sport has 4.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair Grand Touring Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (15.8 vs. 11.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Outlander Sport stops shorter than the Corsair:

The Outlander Sport has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Corsair’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

For better maneuverability, the Outlander Sport’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Corsair’s (34.8 feet vs. 37.1 feet).

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 1250 pounds less than the Lincoln Corsair.

The Outlander Sport is 8.7 inches shorter than the Corsair, making the Outlander Sport easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Outlander Sport has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Corsair doesn’t offer a locking fuel/charge port door.

The Outlander Sport’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Corsair’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Insurance will cost less for the Outlander Sport owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the Outlander Sport with a number “1” insurance rate while the Corsair is rated higher at a number “8” rate.

The Outlander Sport will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Outlander Sport will retain 47.78% to 49.36% of its original price after five years, while the Corsair only retains 47.08% to 47.36%.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Outlander Sport is less expensive to operate than the Corsair because it costs $454 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Outlander Sport than the Corsair, including $262 less for a muffler, $88 less for front brake pads, $36 less for fuel injection, $5 less for front struts, $452 less for a timing belt/chain and $213 less for a power steering pump.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport will be $8639 to $12154 less than for the Lincoln Corsair.
