The V60 Cross Country’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the V60 Cross Country and CR-V Hybrid have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The V60 Cross Country has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The CR-V Hybrid’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The V60 Cross Country has a standard Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), which use a specially designed seat to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the WHIPS allows the backrest to travel backwards to cushion the occupants and the headrests move forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. At the same time the pretensioning seatbelts fire, removing slack from the belts. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The V60 Cross Country has standard Post-impact braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The V60 Cross Country has standard CTA Auto Brake that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the V60 Cross Country. But it costs extra on the CR-V Hybrid.

The V60 Cross Country has a standard 360° Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The CR-V Hybrid only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the V60 Cross Country’s standard rear cross-path warning system uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

The V60 Cross Country has standard Volvo On Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the V60 Cross Country and the CR-V Hybrid have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, with its optional vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the V60 Cross Country its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 106 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The CR-V Hybrid has not been tested, yet.

Warranty

The V60 Cross Country comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The CR-V Hybrid’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The V60 Cross Country’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the CR-V Hybrid’s (12 vs. 5 years).

Volvo pays for scheduled maintenance on the V60 Cross Country for 1 year and 12000 miles longer than Honda pays for maintenance for the CR-V Hybrid (3/36,000 vs. 2/24,000).

Reliability

The battery on the V60 Cross Country is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the V60 Cross Country’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The CR-V Hybrid’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

Engine

The V60 Cross Country’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid produces 43 more horsepower (247 vs. 204) and 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (258 vs. 247) than the CR-V Hybrid’s 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

The V60 Cross Country has 1.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the CR-V Hybrid (15.9 vs. 14 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the V60 Cross Country’s brake rotors are larger than those on the CR-V Hybrid:

The V60 Cross Country’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the CR-V Hybrid are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

The V60 Cross Country’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the CR-V Hybrid’s standard 60 series tires. The V60 Cross Country’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the V60 Cross Country offers optional 20-inch wheels. The CR-V Hybrid’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The V60 Cross Country has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the CR-V Hybrid; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The V60 Cross Country has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the V60 Cross Country’s wheelbase is 6.9 inches longer than on the CR-V Hybrid (113.2 inches vs. 106.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the V60 Cross Country is 1.4 inches wider in the front and .2 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the CR-V Hybrid.

The V60 Cross Country’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (55% to 45%) than the CR-V Hybrid’s (58.4% to 41.6%). This gives the V60 Cross Country more stable handling and braking.

Chassis

The V60 Cross Country is 7 inches shorter in height than the CR-V Hybrid, making the V60 Cross Country much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

Passenger Space

The V60 Cross Country has 1 inch more front legroom and 3.9 inches more rear hip room than the CR-V Hybrid.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the V60 Cross Country’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

The V60 Cross Country’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the CR-V Hybrid’s (2000 vs. 1000 pounds).

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the V60 Cross Country uses the Dynamic Stability and Traction Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat in the CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring, the V60 Cross Country Ultimate has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The V60 Cross Country Ultimate has a standard heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The power windows standard on both the V60 Cross Country and the CR-V Hybrid have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the V60 Cross Country is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The CR-V Hybrid prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The V60 Cross Country’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The CR-V Hybrid’s standard rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The V60 Cross Country’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The CR-V Hybrid’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the V60 Cross Country to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The V60 Cross Country offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the V60 Cross Country has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer cornering lights. The V60 Cross Country also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the V60 Cross Country to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

When the V60 Cross Country is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The CR-V Hybrid’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The V60 Cross Country’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The CR-V Hybrid offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the V60 Cross Country and the CR-V Hybrid have standard heated front seats. The V60 Cross Country also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the CR-V Hybrid.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the V60 Cross Country Ultimate keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The CR-V Hybrid doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The V60 Cross Country offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the CR-V Hybrid.
