For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Nissan Armada are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jeep Wagoneer doesn’t offer height-adjustable middle seat belts.

Both the Armada and the Wagoneer have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the Armada has an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the engines in the Wagoneer.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Armada has a standard 780-amp battery. The Wagoneer’s 730-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are better in initial quality than Jeep vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan above average in initial quality. With 32 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jeep is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 6 places higher in reliability than Jeep.

The Armada’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 8 more horsepower (400 vs. 392) and 9 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 404) than the Wagoneer’s standard 5.7 V8 hybrid.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Nissan Armada uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Wagoneer requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Armada stops much shorter than the Wagoneer:

The rear suspension of the Armada uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Wagoneer, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Armada Platinum 4x4 handles at .74 G’s, while the Grand Wagoneer Series II pulls only .67 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Armada Platinum 4x4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.4 seconds quicker than the Wagoneer Series III 4x4 (28 seconds @ .61 average G’s vs. 30.4 seconds @ .52 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Armada S/SV has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Wagoneer (9.1 vs. 8.3 inches), allowing the Armada to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Nissan Armada may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 400 pounds less than the Jeep Wagoneer.

The Armada is 5.8 inches shorter than the Wagoneer, making the Armada easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Armada’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Wagoneer’s (8500 vs. 7180 pounds).

If the windows are left open on the Armada the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Wagoneer can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Insurance will cost less for the Armada owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Armada will cost $4430 to $6855 less than the Wagoneer over a five-year period.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Nissan Armada will be $3389 to $11540 less than for the Jeep Wagoneer.

The Nissan Armada outsold the Jeep Wagoneer by almost three to one during 2021.
