Tires and Wheels
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Armada Platinum has standard 22-inch wheels. The Grand Cherokee L’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.
The Nissan Armada’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.
The Armada S/SV has a standard full size spare so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare costs extra on the Grand Cherokee L. Without the option you must depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.
Suspension and Handling
The rear suspension of the Armada uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Grand Cherokee L, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.
For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Armada is 2.1 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than on the Grand Cherokee L.
For greater off-road capability the Armada S/SV has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Grand Cherokee L Laredo/Limited (9.1 vs. 8.5 inches), allowing the Armada to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.
Passenger Space
The Armada has standard seating for 8 passengers; the Grand Cherokee L can only carry up to 7.
The Armada has 1.1 inches more front headroom, .6 inches more front legroom, 1.8 inches more front hip room, 4.6 inches more front shoulder room, .1 inches more rear headroom, 1.6 inches more rear legroom, 2.1 inches more rear hip room, 5.4 inches more rear shoulder room, 5.9 inches more third row hip room and 8.6 inches more third row shoulder room than the Grand Cherokee L.
For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Armada’s middle row seats recline, and the Armada Platinum’s third row seats also recline. The Grand Cherokee L’s third row seats don’t recline.
Cargo Capacity
The Armada’s cargo area provides more volume than the Grand Cherokee L.

Towing
The Armada’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Grand Cherokee L’s (8500 vs. 3500 pounds).
Ergonomics
The Armada’s front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Grand Cherokee L’s standard power windows’ front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.
If the windows are left open on the Armada the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Grand Cherokee L can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.
Economic Advantages
Insurance will cost less for the Armada owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Armada will cost $210 less than the Grand Cherokee L over a five-year period.
