Both the Range Rover Velar and QX55 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Velar has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The QX55’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Range Rover Velar’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The QX55 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The Range Rover Velar’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The QX55 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Range Rover Velar and the QX55 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The battery on the Range Rover Velar is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Range Rover Velar’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The QX55’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Land Rover vehicles are better in initial quality than Infiniti vehicles. With 11 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Land Rover higher than Infiniti.

The Range Rover Velar P340’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 67 more horsepower (335 vs. 268) and 74 lbs.-ft. more torque (354 vs. 280) than the QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Range Rover Velar HST P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 127 more horsepower (395 vs. 268) and 125 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 280) than the QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

Regenerative brakes improve the Range Rover Velar’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The QX55 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Range Rover Velar’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The QX55 doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Range Rover Velar has 5.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the QX55 (21.7 vs. 16 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Velar offers optional 22-inch wheels. The QX55’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Range Rover Velar offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the QX55; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

The Range Rover Velar has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The QX55’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Range Rover Velar offers an optional continuously variable suspension system. Using sensors on steering angle, speed and other driver inputs, the shocks soften to improve ride, or stiffen when appropriate to aid handling on tricky roads or off-road. That is lower than the QX55 (.35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Range Rover Velar get better fuel mileage.

The Range Rover Velar has .7 inches more front legroom and 2 inches more rear headroom than the QX55.

The Range Rover Velar has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the QX55 with its rear seat up (30.9 vs. 26.9 cubic feet). The Range Rover Velar has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the QX55 with its rear seat folded (62.7 vs. 54.1 cubic feet).

The Range Rover Velar has a 5291 lbs. towing capacity. The QX55 has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Range Rover Velar uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The QX55 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The engine in the Range Rover Velar is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the QX55. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the QX55 Essential/Sensory, the Range Rover Velar has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The power windows standard on both the Range Rover Velar and the QX55 have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Range Rover Velar is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The QX55 prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The Range Rover Velar’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The QX55’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Velar to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The QX55 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Velar offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The QX55 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Range Rover Velar’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The QX55 has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the Range Rover Velar and the QX55 have standard heated front seats. The Range Rover Velar also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the QX55.

The Range Rover Velar’s available Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The QX55’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

The Range Rover Velar will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Range Rover Velar will retain 46.61% to 47.97% of its original price after five years, while the QX55 only retains 44.12% to 44.72%.

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar outsold the Infiniti QX55 by 81% during the 2022 model year.
