For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Land Rover Range Rover Velar have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the Range Rover Velar and Stelvio have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Velar has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Stelvio’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Range Rover Velar. But it costs extra on the Stelvio.

Both the Range Rover Velar and the Stelvio have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Range Rover Velar’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Stelvio’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 43 percent more Land Rover dealers than there are Alfa Romeo dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Range Rover Velar’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Land Rover vehicles are better in initial quality than Alfa Romeo vehicles. With 18 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Land Rover higher than Alfa Romeo.

The Range Rover Velar P340’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 55 more horsepower (335 vs. 280) and 48 lbs.-ft. more torque (354 vs. 306) than the Stelvio’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Range Rover Velar HST P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 115 more horsepower (395 vs. 280) and 99 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 306) than the Stelvio’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

Regenerative brakes improve the Range Rover Velar’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Range Rover Velar has 4.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Stelvio (21.7 vs. 16.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better traction, the Range Rover Velar has larger standard tires than the Stelvio (255/50R20 vs. 235/60R18). The Range Rover Velar’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Stelvio (265/45R21 vs. 255/45R20).

The Range Rover Velar’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Stelvio Sprint’s standard 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Velar has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Stelvio Sprint. The Range Rover Velar’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Stelvio.

The Range Rover Velar offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Stelvio; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare or run-flat tires, either of which has mileage and speed limitations.

The Range Rover Velar has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Range Rover Velar’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Range Rover Velar’s wheelbase is 2.2 inches longer than on the Stelvio (113.1 inches vs. 110.9 inches).

The Range Rover Velar has 3.7 inches more front legroom and 5.3 inches more rear legroom than the Stelvio.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Range Rover Velar’s available rear seats recline. The Stelvio’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Range Rover Velar has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Stelvio with its rear seat up (30.9 vs. 18.5 cubic feet). The Range Rover Velar has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Stelvio with its rear seat folded (62.7 vs. 56.5 cubic feet).

The Range Rover Velar’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Stelvio’s (5291 vs. 3000 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is only 3000 pounds. The Range Rover Velar offers up to a 5511 lbs. towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Range Rover Velar uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Stelvio doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the Stelvio, the Range Rover Velar has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Range Rover Velar offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

On a hot day the Range Rover Velar’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Stelvio can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Range Rover Velar’s LED headlights produce a white, bright light using less electricity than the Stelvio’s xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. HID headlights can be slow to reach full brightness or power cycle, causing issues when flashing them to signal other vehicles; LED headlights light instantly. LED lights also last about three to four times as long.

When the Range Rover Velar is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Stelvio’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Range Rover Velar keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Stelvio doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar outsold the Alfa Romeo Stelvio by 344 units during the 2022 model year.
