For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Cadillac Escalade doesn’t offer pretensioners for its second-row seat belts.

Both the Range Rover Sport and Escalade have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Sport has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Escalade’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Range Rover Sport. But it costs extra on the Escalade.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. Only the Escalade Premium/Platinum/Sport offers a blind spot warning system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Range Rover Sport has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Only the Escalade Premium/Platinum/Sport has a rear cross-path warning system.

The Range Rover Sport’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Escalade doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

For better protection of the passenger compartment, the Range Rover Sport uses safety cell construction with a three-dimensional high-strength frame that surrounds the passenger compartment. It provides extra impact protection and a sturdy mounting location for door hardware and side impact beams. The Escalade uses a body-on-frame design, which has no frame members above the floor of the vehicle.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the Escalade have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the Range Rover Sport have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the engine in the Escalade.

The Range Rover Sport P440e’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 14 more horsepower (434 vs. 420) than the Escalade’s 6.2 V8. The Range Rover Sport P530’s standard 4.4 turbo V8 produces 103 more horsepower (523 vs. 420) and 93 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 460) than the Escalade’s 6.2 V8.

On the EPA test cycle the Range Rover Sport running its gasoline engine gets better mileage than the Escalade:

The Range Rover Sport P440e can travel with zero emissions for 48 miles. The Escalade can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Range Rover Sport’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Escalade doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Land Rover Range Rover Sport higher (5 to 7 out of 10) than the Cadillac Escalade (3 to 6). This means the Range Rover Sport produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Escalade every 15,000 miles.

The Range Rover Sport’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Escalade doesn’t offer launch control.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Sport offers optional 23-inch wheels. The Escalade’s largest wheels are only 22-inches.

The front and rear suspension of the Range Rover Sport uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Escalade, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/First Edition offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Cadillac doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Escalade.

For better maneuverability, the Range Rover Sport w/Rear Wheel Steering’s turning circle is 3.8 feet tighter than the Escalade’s (35.9 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Sport has a 3.1 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Escalade (11.1 vs. 8 inches), allowing the Range Rover Sport to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Range Rover Sport’s minimum ground clearance is 1.1 inches higher than on the Escalade Air Suspension (11.1 vs. 10 inches).

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 150 to 650 pounds less than the Cadillac Escalade.

The Range Rover Sport is 1 foot, 5.2 inches shorter than the Escalade, making the Range Rover Sport easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Unibody construction lowers the Range Rover Sport’s center of gravity significantly without reducing ground clearance. This contributes to better on the road handling and better off-road performance and stability. In addition, unibody construction makes the chassis stiffer, improving handling and reducing squeaks and rattles. The Escalade uses body-on-frame design instead.

The Range Rover Sport uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Escalade doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Range Rover Sport has a much larger cargo volume than the Escalade with its rear seat up (31.9 vs. 25.5 cubic feet).

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Sport to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Escalade doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.
