The engine in the Renegade has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engine in the V60 Cross Country has dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Jeep Renegade uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The V60 Cross Country requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Renegade has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jeep Renegade higher (6 out of 10) than the Volvo V60 Cross Country (5). This means the Renegade produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the V60 Cross Country every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Jeep Renegade, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the V60 Cross Country.

The Renegade stops much shorter than the V60 Cross Country:

The Renegade Trailhawk offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the V60 Cross Country; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The front and rear suspension of the Renegade uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the V60 Cross Country, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The Renegade’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the Renegade Trailhawk’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the V60 Cross Country’s (35.3 feet vs. 37.1 feet). The Renegade’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the V60 Cross Country’s (36.3 feet vs. 37.1 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Renegade has a greater minimum ground clearance than the V60 Cross Country (8 vs. 7.8 inches), allowing the Renegade to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Renegade Trailhawk’s minimum ground clearance is .9 inch higher than on the V60 Cross Country (8.7 vs. 7.8 inches).

The Jeep Renegade may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 750 pounds less than the Volvo V60 Cross Country.

The Renegade is 1 foot, 9.7 inches shorter than the V60 Cross Country, making the Renegade easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Renegade (except Trailhawk) uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Renegade has 6.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the V60 Cross Country (100.1 vs. 94).

The Renegade has 3.7 inches more front headroom, 2.4 inches more rear headroom and .6 inches more rear shoulder room than the V60 Cross Country.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Renegade has standard extendable sun visors. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Renegade offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Renegade Limited’s optional Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
